I'm testing the Autodesk "DWG to PDF" plotter and I'm getting errors most of the time. I tried it yesterday on a very simple drawing and it seemed to work well enough. I asked one of my users to try it out (Civil 09), and every time he plots with it, it crashes his program. I've tried it on my computer using Civil 3D '08, Civil '09 and Civil 3D '09 and I'm getting errors every time. The error is as follows:

FATAL ERROR: Unhandled Access Violation Reading 0x0000 Exception at ########H

...where the #'s seem to be some variable hexidicemal addressing, as they change with each error message I get.

I've looked around and googled, but it looks like this is a pretty standard error message, as AutoCAD will throw it for many reasons. As far as I can tell, everything else is hunky-dory, it's just this "DWF to PDF.PC3" that's having any problems.

Have you seen this before? Do you know how to fix it? Can you otherwise shed any light on the subject?

A number of people have reported problems with Autocads pdf writer - missing lines and text in the created pdf seems to be the most common problem.

The usual suggestion is to use a third party pdf printer such as cutepdf or primopdf.

Yes, we have third party PDF makers that we use, but them things ain't cheap. I'm just trying to look at alternatives to maybe save some money in the future or as a backup when our commercial products are on the fritz.

Since this Autodesk PDF is already installed on all the computers here, and since it might be good enough for some users, I'd like to at least get the thing working consistantly.
