SFG13 Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 Hi, I downloaded and unzipped "Building 3D Models Tutorials" on "creating basic objects" and "creating 3D objects from 2D" for AutoCAD 09' which I have. But once I opened the drawings a message came up that said, "The DRW file cannot be opened because it was created with a more recent version of AutoCAD. Download the DRW TrueConvert tool from Autodesk to translate to different versions of DWG files." Does this mean I have to follow it and download whatever it tells me in order to see the file? I don't understand if the tutorial is for 09', and I have the program, what's the deal? Quote
ReMark Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 Not only is the tutorial for 2009 but if you look at the dates of the two drawing files for Create Basic 3dObjects they are the same: 12/1/08. Now if that ain't strange I don't know what is. I can confirm that what you say is true (just tried it myself using my 2009 version) but I have no explanation for why AutoCAD 2009 will not open the drawings. I think your only recourse is to download DWG TrueConvert and see what happens. Convert back to 2004 file format and try to open a drawing. Tell us what happens. Quote
SFG13 Posted January 28, 2010 Author Posted January 28, 2010 Hi ReMark, I guess if it's the only way to see it, I'll download it and see what happens but it's really odd for it not to work. Thanks Quote
iskalipsi Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 I have also come across with the same problem. maybe the dwg. was created using 2010 Quote
Tiger Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 I have also come across with the same problem. maybe the dwg. was created using 2010 Would be an embarrassing mistake if autodesk themselves don't remember to save down files to the correct format Quote
ReMark Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 The drawing files I saw were dated 2008. If someone had opened and saved the drawings using the 2010 version they would have had to turn back the system date. Quote
SFG13 Posted January 28, 2010 Author Posted January 28, 2010 I have a question, since I'm currently taking an Technical drawing AutoCAD class and today was the second day due to my professor's illness who wasn't able to attend the first day on Tuesday. The class room still uses the old version of AutoCAD 00' and I tried to open my drawings with the program but an error appeared on screen saying something like, "dwg cannot be opened and is incompatible." Originally the drawings were done from the 00' version, but I recently uploaded them on my 09' version and made some changes to a few and saved them as 09'. I have like 16 drawings and only 3 of the untouched ones can be seen. Is there any way I can fix them to make the rest appear on the 00' AutoCAD? Quote
ReMark Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 Open each drawing in 2009 and when you go to save do so in 2000 file format. It should be one of the choices in the dropdown list. You'll have to do it for each and every drawing. Quote
Tankman Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 Open each drawing in 2009 and when you go to save do so in 2000 file format. It should be one of the choices in the dropdown list. You'll have to do it for each and every drawing. I use '05 and/or '07 but, always save to AutoCAD 2000. Seems easy enough, never a problem with my clients. Same goes for posting, many don't have '08 or higher, why not save in an earlier version of AutoCAD before posting? Makes sense to me! Quote
SFG13 Posted January 28, 2010 Author Posted January 28, 2010 Cool it worked! I think I'll also follow Tankman's response. Thanks for the tip ReMark! Quote
