nikkou Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Let me start off by saying I've only used AutoCAD for about 8 hours. There's a bit of a learning curve, but I think I'm starting to get it. I need help with showing hidden objects in 3d. I was recently hired as a report writer for a company, and they use AutoCAD for their welding diagrams. The previous writer left me some examples to follow. In the attached image, you can see the welds behind the pipe (they are in sea green), but at the same time, you can also see the welds in front of the pipe. I guess my question is: how do you make it so that you can see the weld behind the pipe (in a different color)? I cant leave the wireframe on, because there'd be too much going on. Can someone please help. I'd like to not get fired... Quote
nikkou Posted February 1, 2010 Author Posted February 1, 2010 Also, can someone explain how to do the nifty "map" with the highlighted section at the bottom? I've been inserting a viewport in the paper space, and manually highlighting the section with a polyline. I hope there's a better way to do it. Quote
rkent Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 That looks like a 2D isometric drawing to me, so the hidden objects are broken as they "go behind" and are placed on another layer. The fill in the map is probably done with a separate layer using hatching. Thawed in the map, frozen in the detail. Good luck. Quote
nikkou Posted February 2, 2010 Author Posted February 2, 2010 I don't think its a 2d Isometric drawing. I used the "3dO" command and viewed the drawing from different angles. I'll try out the hatching thing. Any other ideas on showing the hidden objects? Quote

kencaz Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 Using the VisualStyles Manager you can select to show obscured lines in Hidden view mode... You can also select the type and color of line displayed. Command: visualstyles KC Quote
