Crazy J Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 Hi, I read the daily tip on the EXPERT command. I liked it and started using it. But every time I open a new drawing, I have to issue the EXPERT command again. I've also read in other posts and tips that certain settings can be put in the CUI (custom user interface, I believe). I don't know how to do that, and I am also wondering if AutoCAD 2002 even has the option of CUI. Please advise. And since I am a beginner, I never set the EXPERT value past a '1' .... Quote
chulse Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 Paste this into your "acad.lsp" file right above the last (princ) you find. (That file should be in your support folder): (setvar "expert" 1) Quote
Crazy J Posted February 9, 2010 Author Posted February 9, 2010 Thanks for the info... I went looking for the file, and I don't have that exact file. At home now, I am running 2002 and had 2000 on before that. This pic shows the lsp files that I do have in my Support folder. Any reccomendations of which one I should look at? I think the acad200.lsp would be the right one. When I upgraded, it put all the files in the old AutoCAD 2000 folder, and looking in that file, I see the (princ) you mention. And as I am a newbie, do I just open in notepad, add, and save, then test it by firing up AutoCAD? Quote
lpseifert Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 Make a text file with Notepad with chulse's code in it, save as acaddoc.lsp and put it in your Support folder. It will load every time you open a dwg. (acad.lsp & acaddoc.lsp do not come with Acad OOTB) Quote
chulse Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 ... (acad.lsp & acaddoc.lsp do not come with Acad OOTB) I hadn't realized that... Quote
Crazy J Posted February 11, 2010 Author Posted February 11, 2010 I just started by testing the code in the acad200.lsp file rather than creating a new file and it worked very well. Thanks for the directions. This opens up another avenue for me to customize and hopefully get more efficient in AutoCAD. Thanks! Quote
Glen Smith Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 acaddoc.lsp loads every time you open a new drawing. In it you can put all of the LISPS that you have collected that make your drawing that much easier to do. You can also use it to set system variables that do not get saved each time you change them - such as EXPERT. You could even set it up to great you in the morning by name if you so choose. Glen Quote
lpseifert Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 You ought to think twice before editing the Acad200x.lsp file. It's intent was not to be revised. If you do a repair or upgrade, it will be overwritten. Best to create an acaddoc.lsp file instead. From Help for acaddoc.lsp Warning Do not modify the reserved acad2008doc.lsp file. Autodesk provides the acad2008doc.lsp file, which contains AutoLISP-defined functions that are required by AutoCAD. This file is loaded into memory immediately before the acaddoc.lsp file is loaded.
