stairguy Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 Help my CNC programmer has left for a few days of holidays and I thought I had it under control but first thing I am stumped. He has a file that will open an excel file for a parametric schook?. In my notes it says 1: open autodesk inventor. this is easy 2: go to project files and find stringer: Standat I don't know where it is. I thought it opened up when he started inventor and 3: go to the model window and go to third party stringers and right click and it opens excel. I am totally lost and need some help. Quote
JD Mather Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 .. a parametric schook? Couldn't find that in the dictionary - can you give a description? Is this an *.ipt file? Standat I don't know where it is. Is English your native language? Not sure what this means. There are many non-english speakers here, maybe if you post in your native language someone can help. go to the model window and go to third party stringers and right click and it opens excel. If you get the file (part or assembly) open there should be an icon in the upper left corner of the screen that says 3rd Party - right click on it to see options. Quote
stairguy Posted February 9, 2010 Author Posted February 9, 2010 I am posting in english. the parametric schook is a devise(excel file) in which all the measurements in the standard file can be changed by just changing the number in the original file. The Standat is a shortform for a file or what you would call a file name. If I can get to the model file then I can find everything. Quote
JD Mather Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 Do you know the project name? Do you know the file name? When you first open the program you should see an icon for Projects (or a dialog popup of list of projects) (you never stated what version of Inventor you are using). You should have a black ckeckmark next to the project you want to have active (cannot change projects while any files are open). Double click on the project you want active if it is not already active. Now when you do File>Open you should see the file you want within the intended project. Let me know when you get that far. When I click on the file Standard stringers it puts a blue star on the file and lists the other filesthat are in my data base in my library Quote

stairguy Posted February 10, 2010 Author Posted February 10, 2010 So I open autodesk inventor. I go to file>open and I get a dialog box with my library on different files in it. I go to projects box on the bottom right hand corner of this dialog box and click that and I get my stringer standard(project name) highlighted with a black check beside that. Below the dialog box with a checkmark I have a connect dialog box with Project Type =user Location=C:\Documents and settings\saw\mydocuments\inventor\stringer standard\ included file= use style library=read only +libraries frequently used subfolders + folder options +options I have I cannot go to file open from here. I have a "new" button a "browse" button a "done" button . I do have a few buttom on the lower right of the dialog box also. Quote
JD Mather Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 Sounds like you are doing extra work, but it has been a while since I used 2008. It shouldn't be so hard to simply find a file? Use Explorer Search if you are having such a difficult time. Then simply double click on the filename. Sounds like your guy will be back before you get it figured out. Quote
stairguy Posted February 10, 2010 Author Posted February 10, 2010 hi Thank-you for all your help. I had to go into view and then toolbar to find what I wanted hopefully now I can go forward. Quote
