Adding a custom pulldown menu for all my blocks

Recommended Posts

I've been trying to add custom pulldown menu that I can add my blocks into so I can put the blocks i use most in that menu instead of searching thru all my blocks by insert block. I'm using autocad regular 2008 edition. I've seen these custom menus in earlier versions I just can't figure it out myself. Any help will be great!

I agree 100% with StykFacE. I am in the process of moving all of my blocks to toolpallets right now. From what I have seen, the toolpallets are much easier to manage and update. Saving a lot of time vs the old way.

If you have lots of blocks, the best thing to do is put them all in one file. then use the Design Center (type DC at the command line) to locate the file. Then select the blocks, highlight all the ones you want, right-click and select "Create Tool Palette".

Best/easiest way to create multiple Palettes at once. :)

I like what you've shown on your link I just don't know how to add my blocks to a tools pallete

Open the file you have all your Blocks saved. then hit Ctrl+3 to bring up the Tool Palettes. Right-click the border of the Tool Palette to make you a new Tab. Then simply drag, drop the Blocks from the drawing space over to it, one by one. Also, you can drag/drop commands over that you use often.

Remember, after you get Blocks/Commands on the Tool Palette, you can right-click them and go to Properties for additional options. :)

i figured out the way you've shown me to create the tool palette and I have tons of blocks but the problem is each block also has text attatched to it and it seperates all my blocks and the texts into 2 different things so it will be very difficult to try and match all the texts with all the blocks I've tried create the block and the text as 1 block and it still seperates them when i create a tool palette. anymore help would be greatly appreciated!

ummm.... What??

Can you be more clear to exactly what's going wrong? I think I have an idea but I want to be sure. Too many run-on sentences. :)

When you drag a block to a toolpalette it assumes the name of the block. If you want to change the title that appears in the toolpalette, rt-click and use rename.

Also, if you have a folder that contains your separate blocks, you can go to Design Center, rt-click the folder. You will be given the option to Create a Toolpalette of Blocks.

Thanks guys I appreciate the help, sorry for the run on sentences!

hi all,

great ideas.. i had a similar requirement and its clear for me now how to add these blocks into tool pallete. but my doubt is, will this work for other users who are working with me?? if not how do i make this palletes available for my other team members also..

secondly when i open a new autocad file and insert this block from tool pallete, all the text from the block is getting changed to standard text from ISO which was there in the actual block.

kindly advice...

I've got his problem figured... Once upon a time, many versions ago, we had to make each block as an individual drawing and insert it that way. There was no way to 'extract' a block from within a drawing.

It would appear that this is what Jetgray has done. Thus the seperation of the Text and drawing - the new AutoCAD's will extract his Block out of the drawing onto the toolpalette and leave the text as it was seperate. To solve this, you will need to insert the Blocks (seperate drawings) into a single (or Multiple if you prefer) Drawing and then pull them onto the ToolPalette.

Hi,

in my previous organisation we used to have a Customised software (TECAcad) which would be like a tool bar in the autocad by which we can add logos , templates (A1,A2,A3) add title blocks.

An advanced feature of that was when i have template say A4 size fillled with attributes and when i feel i need some more space and change over to A3 size template , it would ask us whether to replace all the attributes into the new template and with a click all attributes used to get transferred.

Now i am trying to do that with help of you, i am half done by

1.inserting the blocks into the templates ..

but i dont know

2.how to seperate the attriblutes alone in a block and transferring these attributes from template to another template.

3. how to make a tool bar to show the block that i have put in the tool palette.

4.and to share this tool bar to all my team members to be easy
