CadBrat Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 oh my. i have tried a lot of things to simply reformat my layout a little; i just wanna move a single border on the title block to make more room for the model. i was able to delete a title block border but when i tried to move it or add a new borderline, i snap to the corner of the page. I have turned off Snap, tried right-clicking the border to unlock it, checked for frozen or locked layers & searched this forum. thanx very much. -Michael Quote
Strix Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 your title block is usually a BLOCK with EDITABLE ATTRIBUTES - so you can't edit it in the way you're hoping to if you're doing work for a company, it's usually a hanging offence to tamper with the title blocks and borders! if your drawing isn't fitting, MOVE it, SCALE it, or STRETCH it to fit! CadBrat Posted August 17, 2008 Author Posted August 17, 2008 thank you for the info & the caveat, strix. actually, i borrowed a generic title block & typed in our own company info so no offense there...i'm the first in-house aCAD guy & i wear a number of hats in a small company... now, the drawing needs to be 1/8-inch to 1-foot, which it is, so i can't scale or stretch. that's why i just wanted to trifle w/ the title block. but you say the title block is EDITABLE. do you mean in properties? a similiar SNAP problem has also arisen; now i can't get new lines in a different drawing to stop snapping. i believe i've tried adjusting the tolerance as well as the things listed above. snap, snap, snap! thanx again! - Michael Quote
Strix Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 the block isn't editable - it has editable attributes such as drawing number and title - this ensures the text appears uniformly across your drawing set you may have a title block that doesn't have editable attributes though It is possible to edit the block, but you'll have to redefine it. Either open the file for the block and edit it there, or (somebody's going to tell me off for this) EXPLODE the block, edit it, then recreate it is it the running OSNAP that's giving you problems? is there a tab with OSNAP on which you can toggle on and off at the bottom of your screen? there's an 'f' key which should do the same thing too Quote
CadBrat Posted August 17, 2008 Author Posted August 17, 2008 explode the block!? i thought you had an evil & brilliant idea until i realized i'd already tried that. no dice. the Block Abides. however, i tried OFFSET again & it worked this time. a lesson learned; don't mess w/ the Block. now, re. the other snap issue: YES! the culprit was OSNAP! thank you thank you thank you, Mr. Strix. a simple rookie issue if ever there was one... dbroada Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 or (somebody's going to tell me off for this) EXPLODE the block, edit it, then recreate it Don't do that!!! (just kidding) I have no problem exploding blocks but in my opinion REFEDIT or BEDIT are much better ways of redefining blocks. Quote
dbroada Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 thank you thank you thank you, Mr. Strix. a simple rookie issue if ever there was one...another rookie error there. Its not MR Strix. Quote
CadBrat Posted August 17, 2008 Author Posted August 17, 2008 thanx, Mr. Dave. i do appreciate your insight. And i will investigate REFEDIT & BEDIT as well; those sound like quite reasonable options. best regards, Mr. CadBrat Quote
Strix Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 I'd listen to Dave - he knows way more about AutoCAD than I do now those OSNAPS - if you've got them on (which is actually a pretty good idea), you can toggle through them with the tab key, so if you're picking up on an end you don't want, hit 'tab' and you should be able to cycle through midpoint and the other end too Quote
