reggy Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 Would anyone here know where the Combine icon is on Solidworks v 2007. It is supposed to be at Insert/Features/Combine, however there is no "Features" selection in my Insert category. The icon is not on my Features toolbar. Isn't there a place where individual icons can be added to existing toolbars to customize the toolbar if wanted? Reggy Quote
shift1313 Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 Reggy, are you in a part or assembly? If you are in an assembly you need to enter the part edit mode for that to appear under your Insert tab. If its still not there, all the way at the bottom of that Insert menu should be a Customize Menu option. This will let you turn it on. Quote

I am in an assembly, as I have two bodies mated together that I need to merge or combine as one body. There is still no "features" option under my insert tab, and the customize menu offers nothing either. How do I enter the "part edit mode" reggy Quote
JD Mather Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 An assembly is not a single part. In a *.sldprt file you can Insert>Part a second sldprt and then Combine into one solid bodyn (join (add), cut (subtract) or intersect (common)). http://www.cadtutor.net/forum/showthread.php?t=44866 Quote
shift1313 Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 reggy, just like i said in my post and JD said. You need to be in a part file. This will not let you combine two separate solid bodies unless they are both inside the same part file. When creating solid bodies in a single part file you have the "merge results" option. If you dont click this, SW creates a new body. Do these parts really need to be 1 single body? what is it an assembly of? Quote

It needs to be a single body so that I can use the Flex feature on them to bend them in another plane. It seems that the Flex feature will not work on multiple bodies, so I must combine what I have into one body. reggy Quote
shift1313 Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 reggy, you will need to start a new part file and use the Insert menu to insert your two part files into this new part. Then you will have the combine icon and flex. Pay attention to your design tree, just below annotations is a folder labeled Solid Bodies. This will be there if you have more than one solid body. Once you combine the two bodies you will no longer see this. Quote
