Fire_col Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 Now Then, I wish to put a series of 3d solids from AutoCAD into a photoshop document to use them as a guide for an effect I'm creating. Is it possible to do this and if so how? Many thanks Quote
tzframpton Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 Photoshop is a raster editor. You'll have to render the image from AutoCAD first in a compatible image format (JPG, BMP, TIFF, etc....) Quote
Guest Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 You can print to a PDF, then import it into Photoshop, but the moment you open it, it will become a raster image.. But it will not be 3-d, only flat. Quote
Cad64 Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 Photoshop CS4 does allow you to import 3D objects, but depending on what you are trying to do, this may or may not be helpful. Also, you would need to get your CAD model into a format that can be imported into Photoshop, which means you would have to open your model in another program and then Export it out from there. Quote
MikeScott Posted March 6, 2010 Posted March 6, 2010 or use the "printscreen" button on your keyboard and then paste it in photoshop and crop-out what you need? Quote
Fire_col Posted March 8, 2010 Author Posted March 8, 2010 Yeah that's what I did in the end, I was just wondering if there was a way to directly copy the solid over. Never mind though eh? Quote

Is it possible to do this and if so how? Many thanks In CS4... "With a document open, choose Layer > 3D Layers > New Layer From 3D File" The file formats are .obj, .3ds, .dae (collada), .kmz and .u3d. You could always open the DWG in SketchUp (with the allow dwg plug-in) and save as a .dae (collada) file and then you should be OK in CS4. I have not tried this but this is what I found out so as they say "your mileage may vary" Good luck Quote
Fire_col Posted March 8, 2010 Author Posted March 8, 2010 Nice one, When I get my hands on CS4 I'll give it a go, should be here this week! Quote
MikeScott Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 I imported a DXFinto corel once (don't remember which version), but of course it only had wireframe data as visible from what I beleive was world UCS. I couldn't turn it in 3d or anything. I was just curious when I saw it imported, but since you're asking for solids, I don't know if wireframe is enough for you. I just ended up turning on my paintshop prop image capture and took pictures of gouraud images to get what I needed. Quote
