I have a fresh install on an Intel i7 Core 920 using Windows 7 and and old version of AutoCAD - 2005.

Everything seems to be OK except when I do a 3DORBIT - the wheel on the mouse (to Zoom) fails. The screen goes blank if I zoom in or out.

Any Ideas?

Thanx,

ChrisG

Not sure about your year of Autocad...if it happened to me right now I would suspect that perhaps the mouse itself was faulty.

I checked into the options and only saw where you can reverse the zoom feature for the middle button...I didn't see a way to turn the feature off.

first idea is that its a graphics issue. I've had that problem in the past where when I orbit the drawing, the graphics don't keep up and everything goes blank. A Regen usualyl get it back, even though it disappears again.

Second idea would be that you are not zoomed at the right area, that when you Orbit it spins out of screen - try a Zoom-All to see if you get back to your model.

2005 running on a Win7 OS? That must have been a fun setup. What kinds of challenges did you encounter?

Tiger,

I think you are on to something here. It does appear to zoom off the screen and the orientation XYZ symbol disappears. Doing a Zoom-All does get it all back. Now, if I'm not in 3DORBIT, zoom seems to work perfectly. So I don't think it is a mouse problem.

ReMark,

Installing 2005 on Win 7 went with out any problems. I had to adjust the acad.exe to run in compatibility mode which is to be expected. But that was it.....

This one has me stumped,

Do you have stuff way out in space of your drawing? That could move your center way off. Zoom > Extents will show you everything. Since we are talking 3D - it could also be that stuff are on so varying Z-heights that to display everything, AutoCAD have to zoom way out.

I have solved this problem - First it really was an annoyance more than anything else.

I installed XPMode under Windows 7. Then installed AutoCAD. It works perfectly except for one little detail. I can't active it.

I have moved all my stuff to a new computer but in the process have installed AutoCAD under XP and under Windows 7 (64) on that old machine. Can I deactivate it to free up an installation?

Thanks,

ChrisG
