Hi

When modelling 3" stainless steel pipes would the Tube`n`Pipe be the best method for creating or would you use the Sweep function. The pipes go in quite a few different directions and angles. This is for INV 2010..

I have little experience with the Tube`n`Pipe feature but does it model pipes better then say using the Sweep function?

Cheers.....Tony

Hi Tony

The sweep feature is a great tool and can carry out most tasks, the tube & pipe feature takes a few days to master but is great for exporting the ybc or xyz tube bending data, if you post a picture (hand sketch will do) of the bends then will can help in what would be the best method.

Edit: You also have the frame generator that can also do tube bends:wink:

Hi Lazer

Thanks for the reply

I have attached a rough drawing of the pipes and the flow pattern they follow..The dimensions are not to scale but just give some shape to how the pipes connect....some pipes merge into other pipes...If using Sweep function is it best to form all the pipe shapes first and then do the Shell feature at the end .

Cheers

I'm going to suggest that you create 2d sketches (without bends) to create and control your 3d sketches. That 3d sketch had to be painful to create, and if you have to edit.....

If you do a lot of this stuff then Routed Systems might be worth the effort. Otherwise the Frame generator is probably the easiest method. Sweep will also work, but I think I would take a look at the FG. I will post an example later today if Lazer doesn't beat me to it.
