Can't delete stuff all of a sudden..

For some reason, in this one drawing I'm working on Autocad won't let me delete anything (at all). Using Autocad 2010.

 

I ran an audit a few minutes ago to fix any errors (fixed a total of 12 errors).

 

Can't delete anything for some reason. Lines, polylines, text, blocks of all layers. Nothing will let me delete.

 

The "Erase" command DOES work. The delete button doesn't do squat other than cause the text prompt in the command line to turn white for a sec.

 

Also, when I double click on Mtext usually that allows you to change the text. Now when I double click on Mtext in this drawing it doesn't do anything but enter a blank value into the command line (nothing is entered but the command line prompts again for a new command..)

 

Also, usually if you select an object in model space you will see that object's layer displayed. At this point, the only layer being displayed in the toolbar is "0" regardless of what you have selected.

 

What the heck is going on?

 

I've deleted a bunch of stuff from the drawing that I didn't want to share but still have the problem. I also purged all the non-used layers from the drawing and the problem persists.

 

I've saved this specific DWG back to 2004 version so you guys can check it out for yourself. I've removed all of the sheets from paperspace and erased most of the content in model space to get the file size down below 250kb for upload. Any help would be appreciated.

Well, I've been trying to do the same stuff with other drawings on our server but I'm having the same problems.

 

I thought the problem was limited to that one drawing but apparently it isn't. It could be a settings / options problem I suppose but I'm still mystified as to what could be causing it. I've never had this problem before in 6 yrs of doing Autocad.

Have you tried shutting down AutoCAD and your system altogether then doing a cold boot and reloading AutoCAD?

But just to answer your question ReMark, yes. I had the problem lastnight before I left for the night. Had the problem this morning after doing a clean boot of the system. Comp was shut of all night.

 

Also, I've tried importing my 2010 profile I exported a few months ago (before this problem). After importing the profile I still can't delete anything. Still having all the same problems.

I was checking my variables when I typed in PICKFIRST and it came up as 0....

 

How did that get changed? I never changed it myself?

 

After entering 1 for the new value.. Everything works fine! So wierd!! Thank you.

No problem. That's why I put those variables in my signature. They are the answer to many Autocad issues. :wink:

 

Are you using any custom lisp routines? It could be that one of them changed the variable in order to run, but didn't change it back when it was finished. Or maybe you canceled the routine, causing it to exit without restoring the variables. In either case, that routine should be fixed so that it doesn't keep doing this.

I use no lisp routines or autocad add-ons.

 

However, sometimes I do start off with drawings done by either the government or a private company for the government. That's because I do drawings of buildings on a specific military installation for all my company's projects here.

 

Alot of times I'll copy the original content from the government's drawings and paste it into another with our title block, layer setup, etc. But alot of times I have to manipulate the original drawings because:

 

1- The governments drawings are always in autocad at 1/12 scale (why??).

2- After you scale up the floor plan by 12... This causes dimensions to be scaled improperly so then you have to go back and rescale/update those.

 

Sometimes the drawings are in 3D too but that usually isn't really a problem. Only, sometimes if you copy a building in 3D from the original drawing and paste it into another the 3d solids end up scattered throughout the drawing for some odd reason.

 

It is possible that one of these original drawings was done by the government and included a lisp routine (possibly even associated with some other CAD program completely).

 

The wierd thing is..The problem didn't happen for 3 days of me working on this drawing. It only happened lastnight at some point (4 days into the work).

Those are system variables. You can't set them per drawing, and the setting is not saved with the drawing, so working on someone else's drawing from another office won't change the settings on your machine. You have to manually change these variables either through the use of a lisp routine or by typing them in at the command line or by changing them in your Options dialog.

 

If you didn't do any of the things I mentioned, then I'm not sure how the setting could have changed.
