caddcop Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 For all of our survey points, we use custom blocks for our LDD points. Even if our block is only an X. This is to avoid a double symbol on the points that have to have a symbol, like trees or hydrants. We were trying to use the KISS principle. Now, when someone wants to draw and snap to the nodes, AutoCAD is not seeing the symbols as part of the points. If the points labels are displayed, when snapping to the node, it will see the text elements and snap to the node. But if the labels ore off, it sees nothing to snap to. To further confuse things, if the blocks contain text, it will see the nodes of the text insertion points, which are never the same as the point node. Is there some setting that needs to be turned on for this to work? Quote
Hippe013 Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 Try snapping to the "INSERT" of the block. Quote
caddcop Posted March 12, 2010 Author Posted March 12, 2010 Unfortunately, the Insert snap has the same drawbacks that node snapping has - for those blocks with text, it also finds the text insert point. I actually figured this out, but was told that this was not acceptable. I'm going to try putting nodes with the blocks and experiment with node display controls. Follow-up Note: We are going into our point blocks and exploding all text. My A's loose everything not horizontal when I try it, so I'm reverting to use MicroStation V8i to accomplish this. And we are going to start using AutoCAD Points instead of custom points. This is an application of the KISS principle. To turn off the points without turning off the blocks, regular AutoCAD commands can be used. And regular AutoCAD commands can be used to change the display of the points. Quote
