cvriv.charles Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 I am wonder if theres a way to create dimensions in the 3D enviroment? Just for display. So I can show the length, height, etc,... in a orthographic view or any view at that. I know theres a way. I dont want to draw my whole model up as a 2D just for that. Quote
kencaz Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 Yes you can... Inventor is great for that. Just create your .idw/dwg sheet insert an ISO view and dimension as usual. KC Quote
cvriv.charles Posted March 17, 2010 Author Posted March 17, 2010 Oh ok:) I have never done this so I will give it a go. thanks. Quote
cvriv.charles Posted March 17, 2010 Author Posted March 17, 2010 Ok:( So can you shed some light on how thats done? I started by creating a new DWG sheet. But couldnt figure out how to get my IAM into it. I then tried saving the IAM as a DWG or a IDW and there is no option for that. So,... what am I miss here besides a lot:) Thanks. Quote
kencaz Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 Leave your assembly open and click "New File" Then "Standard.idw" You should see your new sheet and the drawing views panel on the left. Click "Base View" and it should bring in your assembly and an orientation dialogue box. Once you have place your assembly on the sheet change your panel to Drawing Annotation. Now choose "General Dimension" KC Quote
JD Mather Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 As you place your dimensions hit the Spacebar for different placement orientations. There are a couple of other tricks as well that I have to figure out each time I do an iso dimension. Always check right mouse button options as well. Quote
cvriv.charles Posted March 17, 2010 Author Posted March 17, 2010 Thank you JDM:) Always a pleasure. Quote
