RobSandford Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 Hi all, I'm using autocad 2010 full and being very new to autocad as i have recently passed my 2d level 2 course and now going on to level 3. My question is can and how do i for instance draw a building using east and north coordinates? i.e i have sat on a point which is 500 east and 500 north and surveyed points on the corners of a building for example; point 1, 492.405e 511.030n point 2, 493.273e 508.447n point 3, 490.618e 507.489n and so on. I know that surveying uses whole circle bearing which 0 degrees is at 12 o'clock and moves clockwise and in autocad 0 degrees is at 3 o'clock and moves anti clockwise. Or do i need to purchase 3d civil? all help will be much appreciated Quote
lpseifert Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 Easting= X coordinate Northing= Y coordinate so... point 1 = 492.405,511.030 Quote
RobSandford Posted March 30, 2010 Author Posted March 30, 2010 Silly me sorry yes and just input the next point as an absolute co-ord isn't it, can tell i've only just started using it lol. Okay would i be right in saying i would set the drawing limits as say a couple of metres higher and lower than the smallest and largest easting and northings? Quote
lpseifert Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 To be truthful I haven't screwed around with Limits since the days of DOS Acad; there's no real point in setting the limits unless you like to have the grid displayed. Quote
RobSandford Posted March 30, 2010 Author Posted March 30, 2010 sorry thats two stupid questions, oh what the hell lets go for 3, so how could i import the co-ords on a excel sheet straight into autocad? thanks for the all the advice by the way Quote
lpseifert Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 Have a look here http://www.cadtutor.net/forum/showthread.php?t=13899 also there's Lee Mac's Point Manager routine... http://www.cadtutor.net/forum/showthread.php?t=42954&highlight=Points Quote
RobSandford Posted March 31, 2010 Author Posted March 31, 2010 Thankyou Ipseifert you've been really helpful, since clapping my eyes on this program and finding out some of the things you can do with it i just want to learn more, it's a lot to take in but i'm loving it. Quote
RobSandford Posted April 3, 2010 Author Posted April 3, 2010 If you want to draw a 3D polyline to connect the dots try this: In excel get your data in x,y,z format. This can be done by creating an equation to concatenate the data; e.g =A1&","&B1","&C1 where cells A1, B1 and C1 hold the x, y and z values. Highlight the new column and press Ctrl+C (copy). In autocad start the 3dpoly command, when it prompts you for a start point, paste the coordinates (Ctrl+V) at the command line. Sorry to be a pain but can anyone show me how i do this in excel Quote
Lee Mac Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 Firstly, thanks for the link Larry, appreciated. Rob, if you choose to use my program, it can import from txt/csv, so you could easily save a copy your Excel file into CSV format, and then import the points using my program. Quote
