There are a handful of totally free 2D CAD programs if you care to do an Internet search. Anything obtained from AutoDesk will most likely have a 30-day trial period after which you'll have to buy it.

One lower cost alternative is to use AutoCAD LT which would save you a bundle compared to the full version of AutoCAD.

A9 Tech is offered as a free alternative to AutoDesk's product(s).

Haven't tried, or even looked at it but, free.

Might or might not be a program for a wanna be to get his feet wet with?

A CAD program, supposed to be a freebie for the occasional CAD user.

I'll have to hold off on downloading and evaluating that one for now. I'm evaluating ZwCAD for a friend of mine.
