mrperiodt Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 Hello, I am trying to use Solidworks 2010 Simulation to model the displacement effect on what is basically a 2-axis gimbal. I am able to model effectively each axis with the 'centrifugal' load, but it will only allow me to do one 'centrifugal' load in a study. I tried using a torque load for one of the axes, but I have to apply this to a face, I really just want to model the effects of an acceleration and an angular velocity about the center of mass. Any suggestions? Thanks! Quote
shift1313 Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 I havent used 2010, but wouldnt you just put a torque on the outter ring and make sure the materials are updated(and turn on gravity). It sounds like this would be a motion study. Is that what you are using or are you actually in SimulationXpress? Quote
mrperiodt Posted April 15, 2010 Author Posted April 15, 2010 Thank you for your reply. I am using the Simulation Add-in, but I can certainly try a motion study. I tried using the torque, and I tested it with a single axis revolution but got a different solution than when I ran it with just the 'centrifugal' force. I am not sure, but I feel like it has something to do with having to apply the torque to a face as opposed to just the center of mass. Thanks! Quote
shift1313 Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 Well a simulation will give you the resulting stresses on the parts, but a motion study will show you how those forces are distributed( sort of). For instance if you wanted to see how a mechanism would act when a certain load is applied you would run motion study. When you start a motion study there are 3 types(in 2009), animation, basic motion and advanced motion(i think, i dont have sw in front of me). Each one does a different thing. You will probably want the advanced motion. This will let you apply multiple torques. If actual fea is what you are after, at any point in the animation you can export your parts to simulationXpress and run an analysis. Quote
assordodold Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 Thank you Sweetpea. Have you any idea of the font size that I could reasonably use, or should I just try and see? Any idea of the number of lines per page? Thanks once again for taking the time to reply. Rojofo. Quote
