longweight Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 Hi All, I have searched for an answer to this question on the forum and had no luck with finding one. I want to change the title block on the company drawing so that when a user double clicks to edit the text a window pops up which allows them to edit each text field in the title block but not the title of each line i.e. The user can edit the project name but not the 'Project name' title text. I have seen this done but I can't work out how to do this. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Quote
Glen Smith Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 I think what you are looking for is ATTRIBUTES. Your title block should be made into an actual block and each piece of information that may need to be changed would have an attribute. When you double click on the block the attribute editor pops up and you can make changes. Quote
longweight Posted April 21, 2010 Author Posted April 21, 2010 I thought it might be, I am considering buying the Autocad 2010 for Dummies book, do you know if it is any good? Any other recommendations? Sorry if this has been asked before! Quote
Pablo Ferral Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 And use the 'ATTEDIT' Command, rather than the default 'DDEDIT' Command. You can set this to the default in the CUI. Quote
nukecad Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 Posted this before but here is a link to some Metric Templates with attributed borders http://www.autocadeverything.com/help/showthread.php?t=4380 These should give you an idea about how its done. If you dont want metric I believe that there are some imperial ones here on this forum. Ill try to find them and add a link. Tankman attached one here- http://www.cadtutor.net/forum/showthread.php?t=44951&highlight=templates Quote
Glen Smith Posted April 22, 2010 Posted April 22, 2010 I thought it might be, I am considering buying the Autocad 2010 for Dummies book, do you know if it is any good? Any other recommendations? Sorry if this has been asked before! I have no experience with the Dummies book so can't say one way or the other, I do however, have a copy of the AutoCAD 2008 Bible by Ellen Finkelstein permanently on my desk, with 3M page markers sticking out all over it. I even put clear contact paper on the cover a while back to keep the cover from getting destroyed. It comes with a CD containing a PDF copy of the book which is search-able, but not printable. Very useful. Glen Quote
longweight Posted April 30, 2010 Author Posted April 30, 2010 Thanks Glen, I've got AutoCAD for Dummies in front of me and I have tried creating attributes but I just can't get it to work! It won't allow me to adjust the text height? Any ideas how to change this? Thanks Quote
longweight Posted April 30, 2010 Author Posted April 30, 2010 Ok I've got this far (see attached) Why when I double click does it only allow me to edit the first attribute? Is it because I created them individually and not as a multiple? Title block attempt.dwg Quote
tzframpton Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 You're on the right track. When you have all of the finished attributes in place, and you create the block, be sure to single-pick each attribute one by one in the order you want them to show in the list first..... then select the rest of the entities that will make up the block. Pablo Ferral Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 and make sure the attribute Tag's are all different. Quote
koopman Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 the problems is that you gave every attribute the same name. Give every attribute is own name like dname, rev, or any other name as you see fit. then it should work fine.... Quote
longweight Posted April 30, 2010 Author Posted April 30, 2010 Ok so its nearly there! Only problem I can see is that when I double click to edit the attribute it doesn't come up with the window shown in the image, any ideas as to why? Thanks for all of your help so far! longweight Posted April 30, 2010 Author Posted April 30, 2010 I have changed the tags to be different but on the drawing I have just uploaded they are all the same Quote
Tankman Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 I often play with title blocks, my work is simple, thus I don't need much. There isn't any need for me to use attributes. I do 'bout the same stuff everyday. Don't forget to save the titleblocks as *.dwt files. PORTRAIT-TITLEBLOCK.dwg LANDSCAPE-TITLEBLOCK.dwg Quote
Glen Smith Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 You need to do an ATTSYNC to synchronize your attributes, that should get things to the way they should be. Check what the ATTDIA system variable is set for also and report back. Glen Quote
tzframpton Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 I personally don't use Attributes. I use a block that's on a locked layer, so it easily updates across multiple layouts when updating (other than individual sheet specific information). Quote
longweight Posted April 30, 2010 Author Posted April 30, 2010 Ok I have run the ATTSYNC command. The ATTDIA command is set to 1? Quote
Glen Smith Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 Open a new drawing and insert your block. Double click on at attribute that you want to change and it should open the attribute dialog box for you to make changes. There are some text fields in there as well, double clicking on those will edit the text, but they are not attributes. Glen Quote
longweight Posted April 30, 2010 Author Posted April 30, 2010 Thanks for all this. Its the table ATTEDIT brings up, is there a way to make it come up with that table when you double click instead of the table EATTEDIT that I get when I double Click? Quote
