Converting AutoCad drawing into Autodesk Inventor for stress testing

Recommended Posts

As the topic suggests, I have a full 3D drawing completed on AutoCAD and now i need to test it for stress.

The problem I am having is when i open the file on inventor, it will not let me click on the enviroment tab and then test the product.

I am fairly new to inventor and not familiar with how it works. If anyone could tell me what to do or even guide me on how to convert the drawing to be able to test for the stress would be great thanks.

The drawing is attached below (dwg)

Works fine with your file on my machine.

But first,

You didn't state what version of Inventor you are running.

Your dwg is of an assembly - not a single part.

Must have Inventor 2010 (Pro or Analysis) or later to do assembly FEA.

Did you open the dwg correctly (File Open and set Options to Import)?

This thing doesn't really make sense to me. Did you neglect to Union some of the solids in AutoCAD or will this really be made up of individual solids (see attached).

Currently using 2011 of both.

Still not 100% on how to get to the testing stage.

Are you able to open the DWG file in Inventor? (post screen shot of assembly and browser in Inventor)

Thank you for your help, i managed to open it successfully now, was just a mistake on my end about the import method.
