SFG13 Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 Hi, I have an object in cyna color and was able to subtract the small circle on the left corner of it, except I can't seem to subtract the small center object on top that looks somewhat like a grenade. Unless the objebt is not completel but I must be missing something, I can't figure it out. new 1.dwg Quote
kencaz Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 Well, first your trying to subtract a surface extrusion because your grenade was not a closed polyline which wont work. You can either close the region and extrude a solid for subtraction or just use press-pull. You can slice your surface extrusion, however, your surface needs to extrude beyond the object it's slicing. I would use press-pull myself. KC Quote
Car5858 Posted April 25, 2010 Posted April 25, 2010 That is because the object is not a solid. Create a solid on the drawing to the right. Use press pull, select inside the center hole with the keyway. Enter the height value, select move object, use the upperleft end endpoint of the keyway. Move to the same point on the left hand part. Make a new layer, (layer 1) move this object to layer one. Set layer "0" as the active layer, turn off and lock layer 1. Erase the extruded surface of the keyway and the center diameter. EXTRUDEDSURFACE Layer: "0" Space: Model space Color: 4 (cyan) Linetype: "BYLAYER" Extrusion height: 1.7500 Turn on and unlock layer 1. Subtract the object on layer 1 with the subtract command. I see you beat me to it. Quote
ReMark Posted April 25, 2010 Posted April 25, 2010 SFG13: Whenever you get a result you were not expecting or no result at all other than an error message it's a signal that you should check your geometry. You can do this either using the LIST command or the Properties dialog box. I prefer LIST. In your drawing (new 1.dwg) I executed the LIST command and checked all the objects. Two came back as being 3D solids. Everything else came back as being an Extruded Surface. Solids and Surfaces don't mix well in certain commands. In this case it is the center keyway that needs fixing as kencaz and Car5858 have pointed out. Have you followed their directions and resolved your problem or do you require more assistant? You do have a tendency to extrude simple lines or arcs into surfaces that you should try to avoid unless your intention was to create a surface and not a solid. As kencaz has mentioned the use of Press/Pull will be the command of choice if you do not want to use polylines or regions. Do you understand what he is driving at? If not...then ask. That's what we are here for. Quote
SFG13 Posted April 26, 2010 Author Posted April 26, 2010 I was able to follow all of you guys tips in order to subtract the keyway. I used the presspull command, move, subtract, etc and it worked! Thanks a lot for the help kencaz,Car5858, and ReMark! Quote
ReMark Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 SFG13: Your hard work will pay off in the end. Glad to hear you were successful. Quote
Car5858 Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 I also am glad that everything worked out for you. Sometimes a little planning will save a lot of drawing time. Quote
