Hello,

I have made the outline of a ship's hull. I would prefer to make it out of solids so that I can use commands like subtract and union for protrusions and cut-outs, like portholes, anchor hawsepipe, etc. I was wondering if anybody could help me find a way to model this.

The picture shows one of the ship's plates. Each plate, at least in the curved sections of the ship, are made of arcs. The top and bottom lines were fitted polylines and the right and left lines were arcs with different radii. I broke them at each of the intersecting points.

Thank you so much for any input.

Sorry mate! ...if you're using '05, it has a limited modelling functionality. It can be done, however in later versions ('07 onwards), by using the loft command.

You can do this using the M2S.lsp or the F2S.lsp by Bill Gilliss (Google for it)

Good luck

I don't know for sure, but what would happen if he regioned them, extruded them inwards to (or past) the halfway mark, unioned them, and then mirrored it on the hulls centerline and unioned them again?

Would that work?

Thanks for your responses,

M2S won't let me use commands like union and subtract.

Can't region them because they aren't in the same plane. They are technically four arcs.

I will look into a newer version of AutoCAD.

Thanks again.

Interesting project there. Good luck and post here if you have solutions to that.
