Part too thin in meshing

Hello guys and girls

I am beginer in inventor and having big headache in solving stress analysis in inventor. MY model is drawing in autocad as polyline which is hollow elleptical shape dimension is 8m x 500mm x 2mm ( L x w x t). I simply imported this part into inventor part drawing and extruded into 8 meter length. When I try to mesh this model, I get error message that part is too thin and may takes long time for meshing. I just cant understand inventor does meshes 2 m.m thick plate why not my model? Any expert idea?...I did play with mesh size control and local control but still same mesage. Any help will be highly appreciated.

thanks:roll:

Sounds like the ratio of smallest to largest is extreem.

Thanks JD

Whats best solution for this problem?.. I dont know how to solve this puzzle. I did tried to change element size, coarse meshing but nothing came up so far....Any close solution?

Btw.. I did successfully solve for solid model rather than my actual hollow model

That doesn't sound like the same problem? I think you will need Algor or something similar.

Thanks once again

How about scaling model and try to run analysis in Inventor. As I dont have Algor ...

Scaling doesn't solve the problem. Imagine you have a piece of sheet plate 2mm thick and 100mm long. Depending on the material you might be able to bend it with some difficulty by hand.

Now imagine that same piece is 8 meter long with one end fastened to a table. If you went to the other end you would easily be able to get very significant deformation with one finger and little force.

If you are a student you can download Autodesk Algor for free from http://www.autodesk.com/edcommunity and register to activate free 13-month license.
