TimZilla Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 I make a lot of my own blocks. ie: Pipe Coupling. I always make them with a wipeout, so that they hide stuff behind them. Is there a way that I can assign a draw order to them so that they always stay on top? because sometimes when I move stuff they go back under the lines. See below. wipeout block example.pdf Quote
alanjt Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 When creating the block, you can do Draworder above/under object(s). I encountered this in the past with trying to have a block with a bit of hatch and text over top it. By setting the text above the hatch object with Draworder, I was able to correct the problem. I know it's a cumbersome task, but it should solve your problem. eg. Command: DRAWORDER Enter object ordering option [Above objects/Under objects/Front/Back] <Back>: Quote
TimZilla Posted April 30, 2010 Author Posted April 30, 2010 Does this do the same thing as the draworder toolbar?, or is this a more permanent fix? because I use that draworder toolbar and if I highlight my whole riser detail and move it somewhere else, all of my couplings go back under. It is so annoying. When I created the block I did use the toolbar to bring the detail infront of the wipeout outline of the coupling. Maybe I can do what you say and bring the block to the front, then, make that block a block and rename it. That might keep it put while moving. I have noticed the Wipeout command isnt popular with too many people, and I think I am starting to realize why. Quote
alanjt Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 There's a big difference between Draworder Front/Back and Above/Under. Be sure to move the Wipout Under the other objects. Yeah, Wipeouts are a huge pain and PDFs do not like them. As a replacement for using Wipeouts, you can create a piece of hatch that is the same color as the background (True color: 0,0,0). It will work just like Wipeouts without all the hassle. Quote
alanjt Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 Here's an example (didn't bother making a block out of it)... new block.dwg Quote
Pablo Ferral Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 I've heard that the draw order is dependant on the order you create you geometry in. So you could try creating the Wipeout first, or cut and paste all the geometry you've created in place so that Autocad 're-builds' it in the right order... (I haven't experimented with this though, so I would be interested to hear how you get on!) Quote

Pablo Ferral Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 ...But the OP was commenting that the draw order doesn't appear to be permanent. I am interested in what happens when you get the order of the geometry right in the first place, so that you don't have to use the draw order command...Copying and pasting in place seems to be a neat way of 'forcing' Autocad to recreate the geometry in the right order... nicnicman Posted May 13, 2010 Posted May 13, 2010 Instead of using True Color (0, 0, 0) use True Color (255, 255, 255). Except now it will be a white blob in model space. I haven't really found a good alternative. Quote
alanjt Posted May 13, 2010 Posted May 13, 2010 Yeah, sorry about that. I mixed myself up and said 0,0,0. Above is correct. Quote
