ReMark
"SolidWorks can also import 3D DXF/DWG data as curves in the part environment that can be used to create solid models. 3D DXF files are also supported for import within SolidWorks." Are you trying to import the drawing file of the object you have posted in another thread as Shell03.dwg?

ReMark
What file format did you try? DXF or DWG?
Zoobz
I tried both...
ReMark
Maybe Solidworks wasn't expecting a solid.
Zoobz
i dunno, im kinda new to all this...i'm just rtying to open it up through the DWG Editor, without success.
ReMark
It's all beyond me I'm afraid. I do not use Solidworks. You can't take the 2D content and create a 3D model?
Zoobz
actually it wont even open them as 2D...i thought it did
Zoobz
could it be this new Autocad2010 Architecture ???
JD Mather
...to open it up through the DWG Editor, without success. Why? What is your purpose in SWx? You say it is a solid? If so acisout in AutoCAD and then open that in SWx.
Zoobz
i just wanted to open it up in solidworks so i can save it as an .stl file
Cad64
Why don't you just Export the .stl directly from Autocad?
Zoobz
Why don't you just Export the .stl directly from Autocad? hmmm...how do you do that?
Cad64
Exactly what I said. Use the EXPORT command and choose .stl as the export format.
Zoobz
for some reason...it doesnt work
Cad64
What doesn't work? The Export command or the conversion to .stl?
Zoobz
the conversion to stl, the file doesnt save
Cad64
Does Autocad give you an error? What does it report on the command line? Hit F2 and copy and paste the contents of the text window here. I'm assuming that you checked the correct folder where you specified the file to be saved?
