Bobzy20 Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 Hi I wonder if anybody can help me with this small problem I have. I’m trying to add a 15mm recess on the side of this Conrod but I don’t know how to create it as I’m fairly new to 3D modelling. As you can see from image no. 1 below I’ve drawn the outline of the recess on one side of the Conrod (Red) but now need to extrude it 15mm inwards. This will also need to be mirrored to the other side too. It should then look like image no. 2 below when completed. Any help would be great. Thanks Bob Quote
fahim108 Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 You have two options here, 1. Either, make a profile polyline (as you seem to have made), region it, extrude it inwards, then subtract it from the rest of the solid. 2. Or, use the imprint option from the Solids Editing Toolbar, imprint the profile polyline, then extrude face it inwards, that's it! I hope that was clear! Quote
Bobzy20 Posted May 14, 2010 Author Posted May 14, 2010 Hi thanks for your replies, I tried to region the polyline recess profile with the solid and I got this error: 1 closed, degenerate or unsupported object rejected. Do you know what this means? Thanks Bob Quote
ReMark Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 Change the orientation of your UCS and use Press/Pull to create the solid. Quote
fahim108 Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 You're selecting everything while regioning... Only select the polyline and you're done... *oh and btw, that 1closed thingy means your polyline has already been converted to a region... just continue with extrusion and subtraction... Quote
Bobzy20 Posted May 14, 2010 Author Posted May 14, 2010 Hi thanks for your replies, the push/pull command worked well very well but lets say I didn’t use that and I used the normal region it, extrude it inwards, then subtract option. This is what I get once I did these things, 1st image shows the recess extruded inwards but once you de-select everything it appears the recess isn’t showing at all (see 2nd image) Thanks Bob Quote
ReMark Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 You did something wrong. It almost looks like you did an offset first, then a region, then two subtractions. I think you got carried away on that one. Quote
fahim108 Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 Have you subtracted it. Seems like a duplicate region/3d solid. Just erase it, maybe you're done it two times and made two solids... just guessing! Quote
Bobzy20 Posted May 14, 2010 Author Posted May 14, 2010 Hi thanks for your replies, ok I jut exploded the recess polyline profile and then p-edited it back to a polyline. Then I selected the union command and tried to union the recess polyline only and I get the message: Command: region Select objects: 1 found Select objects: 0 loops extracted. 0 Regions created. Looks like its not becoming a union! Thanks Bob Quote
Bobzy20 Posted May 14, 2010 Author Posted May 14, 2010 Also if I try and select the 3D solid and the recess polyline together and make them union it says: At least 2 solids, surfaces, or coplanar regions must be selected. Thanks Bob Quote
fahim108 Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 Check your polyline's properties (select it and hit Ctrl+1) and make sure it is listed as "closed" at the end of the flag. Then Region it... Btw, you can't union a 3D solid with a 2D region (polyline is out of question!) Quote
bjschw Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 If you extrude the polyline 30mm then move the extruded solid in 15mm then subtract the extuded solid from the conrod it should work and all you need to do is delete the solid you extruded. Quote
Bobzy20 Posted May 14, 2010 Author Posted May 14, 2010 Wow I managed to do it no problem once the recess polyline was listed as Closed! Thanks very much for your help everybody. Also I’m looking to have some R/C (Radio Controlled) wheels CNC machined in aluminium soon but require 2 wheels to be drawn up in CAD and then exported to a file that would go straight into the CNC machine. Does anybody know anything about this & would anybody be interested in drawing the wheels for me? Thanks Bob Quote
