I have been using AutoCAD 2009 and 2010 relatively often but i switched to AutoCAD 2011 very recently and now i am having some problems because of the things that have changed.

How to i plot in monochrome, regardless of layer colours? Because no matter what plot style i use or what changes i make to it, when i plot and go to plot styles --> edit in the "table view" tab there is always a tab called "normal" which i cant change. And even if no layer is assigned to "normal", it still plots as if it is.

I could handle plot styles well in previous editions but i can't figure that out!

I really need some help! i assume there is some very easy way to do this but i can't think of anything and it is really holding me back!

Why do you not just use the monochrome.ctb instead of all that editing?

Are you sure your "Plot with Plotstyles" box is checked in the page setup manager?

Hi Tolmi1 open Page set up manager, then select monochrome.ctb as Dana said then save out your settings to your drawing should be all you need to do

Thanks a lot for the replies. I did use the default monochrome style but it didn't work either. The "plot with plot styles" box is also checked. It just occurred to me that it may be because i was plotting straight from model and not from the layouts. Could that be the reason? Although in previous versions i did that very often with no problems whatsoever.

Well, yeah!!!! Now there's yer problem. Didja slap yerself in the forehead yet? Don't worry, we've all had these sorta moments.

When you right click to plot from model, you have to define a layout just like in paperspace. Otherwise it does not use a plot style and prints what it sees. Betcha the prev. releases worked pretty much the same too. Maybe somebody else put a modelspace layout in the template drawings.

Well i guess i am a newbie  i plotted selecting a window, i didn't plot the display, but still i guess it plots what it sees! Thanks a lot!

Your drawing is set up to use .stb plot styles. Anything on plot style name normal will plot the color of the layer. To control plot colors in an STB you have to have a plot style name in the stb that matches every plot style name used in the drawing, layer manager. You can create a stb file from the Big red A, Print, Manage Plot styles. Once you have the stb file created you can add style names to match what is in the drawing, setting them to plot black, a certain width, etc.

erk. I don't use stb's much. That never occured to me.

i have encountered a problem like this before regardless if im on the model or layout page wherein even if monochrome and grayscale is applied, it plots the colors still, the colors i used for my layers were the "true colors" and but when i changed all my layer colors to "index colors" it printed the way i wanted to, in monochrome. could it be that the colors you used are selected by the "true color" window?

i cant really explain why the use of "true colors" does not print it monochrome or even grayscale..

just sharing..
