vertical horizons Posted May 21, 2010 Posted May 21, 2010 I used 'copy components', copying several objects from within the .IAM to the .IAM. I 'saved' on a regular basis. I'm glad I did, because when I went to close the drawing, a 'severity error' message popped up, and I was not able to save the drawing. Luckily, I didn't lose too much of my work. I have gotten this error message in the past. It seems that it only occurs when I use the 'copy components' command. Anyone else come across this problem? Quote
vertical horizons Posted May 23, 2010 Author Posted May 23, 2010 Today, I worked the drawing again, but this time I brought in the components directly from where they were located. I DID NOT use the COPY COMPONENTS command. Not one glitch, all day. It's a pain and takes a little more time having to do it that way. But, at least I can get the job done. Quote
JD Mather Posted May 24, 2010 Posted May 24, 2010 If you have a component in an assembly and you want another instance you can simply drag and drop from the browser. Quote
linnmaster Posted May 24, 2010 Posted May 24, 2010 Another way to bring ipts or iams into an assembly is to have the the assemly or parts open, arrange windows by tile, have the ipt/iam you wish to bring in active, select the part/assembly in the tree, and drag it in ... Can be quicker than browsing to every part location sometimes. Hope what I've said is understandable. If not, I'll word it better Regards, David Quote

I'll try that the next time I need to copy a component. If it works, it'll sure be a great time saver. If I still have a problem, then at least I can still make do. I always know I can count on this forum to come up with an answer or two. Thanks. Quote
JD Mather Posted May 24, 2010 Posted May 24, 2010 Another thing you can do (if you don't already have an instance) is have a session of Windows Explorer open beside Inventor. (I like to set Explorer to Medium Icons) then you can drag and drop parts or sub-assemblies from Explorer directly into Inventor assembly. Quote

I did it this way all day, without any complications. So far, so good. No fatal errors. And it sure is a lot quicker than having to go through the long list, when it's right there in your browser. gbradley Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 I was getting the "Severity Error, facility : ($FFFFFFFF)", and after reading a few boards, I saw that it looks like it's a Windows Desktop Search. Trouble is, I love Windows Desktop Search. Why does it have to interfere? Quote
