Ryder76 Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 I am an electrical designer, and my company wants me to learn Solid Works. I am currently going thru the tutorials at a snails pace! I have used Autocad for the past 18 years, but I have taken Inventor training (four day class) so some things are familiar in SW. To the point - I need more data. I have the Autocad Bible which I like and was wondering if there was anything out there comparable to it for SW. Also any recommendations for tutorial sites on the internet for SW? I can google the info, but I thought if there is someone here that has used any and had recommendations as to what to check out and what to throw out would be helpful. Thanks in advance. Quote
H'Angus Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 I've got '2008 Solid Works Bible' by Matt Lombard, it's been pretty good for me. I'm not sure if there's a newer version, worth a look though. Edit: It also came with a CD with a whole bunch of tutorials on it. Quote
shift1313 Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 Are there certain features you want to know about or are you mainly speaking about modeling in general? I wrote a few "guides" for someone that you are welcome to look through. http://filebox.vt.edu/users/maperez/SolidWorks%20Tutorials/SW%20Tutorial%20(2).zip I have a big problem with most of the "tutorials" that i have seen because they dont seem to explain the functions of what you are doing or why you are doing it. More like press this, enter this value and so on. So even if you manage to complete the tutorial you still may not have a clue about what you did. But everyone learns in a different manner. which version of SW will you be using? Quote
Ryder76 Posted May 25, 2010 Author Posted May 25, 2010 I'm using SW 2009 and thank you for your goodies. I will definitely take a look. I know what you mean about the tutorials just telling you to click this and that without explaining what it does and why you would use it. Quote
Ryder76 Posted May 25, 2010 Author Posted May 25, 2010 Tried to download and open your stuff. Got an error message and this is what I got out of the help file.... The Zip file cannot be opened. If this Zip file is part of a multiple-disk set, please insert the last disk of the set and try again (this is required by the standard Zip multi-disk format). You may subsequently be prompted to insert other disks from the set. If you downloaded this file, the most likely cause of this problem is a bad download. The best solution is almost always to download the file again. If this does not solve the problem, see the WinZip® web site for hints on resolving download problems. If you did not download this file and it is not part of a multiple-disk set, it is either not a valid Zip file or it is corrupt, perhaps because of a bad diskette. Quote
JD Mather Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 Extracted fine on my machine. There are also some older tutorials linked in my signature. And search Google for Ed Eaton DiMonte Group Curvy Stuff Tutorials. and Mike Wilson SolidWorks (reverse engineer his models) and http://www.productdesignforums.com/index.php?showforum=60 and Paul Salvador zxys.com and Matt Lombard dezignstuff.com Quote
