numberOCD Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 Hi, I'm working on AutoCAD 2011 MEP, and just recently got into the use of shp and shx files for making custom linetypes. What I can't quite figure out is how I can use the MKSHAPE command to create a .shp file with multiple "shapes" named differently to condense all of these patterns into one .shp file. Also, with multiple different named shapes, when I compile the .shp document will that negatively affect the shapes? Thank you greatly! Quote
ReMark Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 If you are making a custom linetype then you are probably using the MKLTYPE command right? Are you saying that AutoCAD won't allow you to use more than one shape in your custom linetype? Quote
numberOCD Posted May 26, 2010 Author Posted May 26, 2010 The lines I create have not seemed to work with the MKLTYPE, and I'm making this as a group of files for my replacements to be able to use by simple guided file destinations of .lin, .shx, and .shp format. For the "shapes" definition: When you go through MKSHAPE, you first save the .shp file name, then it asks for the name of the "shape", then resolution, focus point, then select objects. After all of that it closes the .shp file. I'm trying to find how to add more "shapes" to the .shp file. I would imagine it has to be possible, otherwise there would be no reason to issue a name of the shape in conjuction with the .shx file in the .lin file. Quote
lpseifert Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 When the Mkshape command asks for a .shp pick one (or create a new one). If you select an existing .shp file it a warning box will appear asking you if you want to replace it. Answer Yes... it won't replace the file, it will just add the shape definition to the end of the file. Better back up first though. Quote
