Bobzy20 Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 Hi guys has anybody tried doing this tutorial yet? http://www.solidworksaudir8.com/tutorial.php Looks like you need to pay for it $87USD but looks pretty good at the end. I’m currently looking to get into SolidWorks and thought I would mention this. Thanks Bobzy20 Quote
shift1313 Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 There is a new member Auggy that is working on it. Here was the comment " It was good, I'm a teacher at a local high school and was looking for something that high school kids would like to try and I found that he doesn't help you understand what he is doing and some of the videos leave a lot to be desired but overall I would say it was good for me because I am very new to the software and of course the school has no money to send me to school to learn the software so it is trial and error for me... " Complex surfacing is not where I would start if you are just trying to learn SW. What kind of cad experience do you have already? Quote
Bobzy20 Posted June 4, 2010 Author Posted June 4, 2010 Hi Matt thanks for the information. I’ve been using AutoCAD for about 6 years now just drawing in 2D, now I’m just coming to the end of learning 3D (1 year course) but I guess I really need to use it everyday to learning everything! I’ve been thinking about getting into SolidWorks or Inventor but the cost of learning and buying the software is extremely high. Official SolidWorks Training is around £300 per day/per person L I guess it all depends on what job role you want to get into, AutoCAD is great for construction/building and SolidWorks & Inventor is better for lets say product design. What do you do as a job? Cheers Bobzy20 Quote
shift1313 Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 I design/fabricate equipment for vehicle testing sort of. Anything from electronic enclosures, camera/monitor housings or just general test equpiment. It varies a lot. I prefer solidworks over inventor, but there are others who prefer inventor. In terms of function they are pretty much the same. I just prefer some of the controls and interface of SW. I would especially go with SW over inventor for complex surfacing, but again that may just be personal preference. I used Acad for years, but havent really touched it since I got into these parametric modeling software packages. If you are associated with a school(for your 3d course) you can download the student version of inventor for free(as well as many other autodesk products). I believe the student version of SW is around $100usd. In another thread i am putting together a 2010 camaro tutorial for solidworks. This will be free, but is not geared towareds someone with little to no SW experience. However it may give you an idea of the design process. Quote
Bobzy20 Posted June 10, 2010 Author Posted June 10, 2010 Looks like Dan who created the Audi R8 in SolidWorks is now creating a Lamborghini Gallardo! Wouldn’t it be great to be that good at SolidWorks? Maybe I should start learning! Looks real nice see link below: http://www.solidworksgallardo.com/video.php Thanks Bobzy20 Quote
shift1313 Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 Bobzy, i will be finishing up a tutorial on the 2010 camaro body hopefully this weekend and posting it in the forum here for free. Quote
lauraengdept Posted June 17, 2010 Posted June 17, 2010 I have a couple of friends who are training for SW and the tutorial shows them how to build a weight machine. They have nothing bad to say about the tutorials so that may be something to look into. Apparently they show how to use the commands well and not just what the commands are. I heard that you download them into your computer and then they have an idex so you can always go back and relook at anything you need to remember. They really like them and are always using them to go back and review stuff whenever they need to. That makes their boss happy, I'm sure lol. Quote
