Help! Cant Select Geometry in Sketch Mode

New user of Inventor LT and I know that I am probably missing a very basic step. I have created a simple part and then extuded it. Basic "C" channel and now I just want to copy it so I have two of them side by side. I have set my sketch application to automatically project geometry in new sketch. I start th ecopy command and it will not allow me to select the geometry.

If I want to draw a line from one of the corners, I get the little green node which indicates to me that the geometry is there. Just don't know what I'm missing. Seems like it should be so simple.

This issue applies to rotate, mirror, etc. any command that requires I select the geometry.

Any help would be apprieciated!

Is your intention to have two separate parts and create Assemblies? If so then LT really isn't for you. Yeah, its cheap but it is only designed for single part designs.

If you are merely doing this in a single part file and wish to make another C channel there, why not use Mirror or Pattern? Is it to be exact or a different size? When you perform the Copy are you selecting all the geometry to copy or just trying to pick the loop? That green dot means you are just grabbing an endpoint or midpoint for base point reference, it does not select the geometry for you.

Ya, this is just a simple single part. We have recently just purchased the new Plant 3D and we are experimenting with the best way to develop 3D content. Content such as sludge dewatering devices pumps, etc. that are not included in the Plant 3D software, just need to be very rudimentory shapes with basic outline of the equipment.

Can't mirror or anything because I can't select it. Have tried right clicking and useing the select all which does nothing. When I window around the geometry it does not highlight eaither.

I seem to be able to do everthing I want to until I extrude the object and then finish the sketch. When I go back into new sketch and select th eface I want to modify is when I loose the ability to copy, mirror, rotate, etc.

I'm sure its something very basic that I have missed, just driving me nuts.

Sometimes this has to do with something as simple as your computer specs.

Which version of LT are you running 2010 or 2011?

What is your OS?

What is your graphics card?

If still using XP, then are you using OpenGL or Direct3D in the Application Options of Inventor Hardware Tab?

When was the last time you upgraded your video driver?

Also a little off topic, but did you know that Inventor can create connections in your models for Plant3D directly and that file can be exported as an ADSK file? And this is the more crucial part, Plant3D has a hidden command (not documented) to bring this content in directly will all the correct hookups on it. Here is a sample ADSK for you to play with. It was created with the AEC Exchange Environment inside Inventor.

Now in Plant3D you need to use this command:

PlantInventorEquimentConvert all typed out in the command line.
