I do not have a line printer here so perhaps my samsung all in one can substitute for small version of a line printer by printing 1/4 sheets of a blue print and tape them together?

Anything is possible.

You would be printing these four sections to scale correct?

Are you printing from model space or from a layout?

Tankman send me a return example of mine called titleblock which I think was default name of layout.

BTW, what are those edge of sheet boundaries called that are alphanumeric sequence on bottom and sides of sheets? I know thay are used to discuss location of components or floor space in over the phone or email correspondence.

Secondly, I am considering on getting into the HVAC or Mill-write industry. Both definatly use autocad but for now, If I am to model office space, wouldn't it be nice to learn the aspects of hvac systems and make simulated designs.

Thank you for answering none of my questions and then posting what appears to be responses to a totally different discussion.

Remark Sorry, Some how I misplaced my self in the forum. The sheets will be to scale if you mean, to the edge of all four sheets and printing from layout.

Will your printer actually go right up to the edge of the paper?

Yellow Pages! Look up drafting supply.

My local drafting supplier receives email *.dwg or *.pdf files and prints them to any size you need.

Very inexpensive, 24" x 36" paper size last I checked 'bout $2.00 US, picked up next (or even) same day. Supplied rolled or folded whatever you need.

Yesterday I verified that my printer can print poster size to the edge. So it can be four sheets, 6 sheet or more. Kinda nice to know these images can be blown up to size for use in the field.

Now all you need is a roll of tape.

Or, get one print from the local drafting supply, "Tape not required."

I don't have a widemouth plotter either. I do mostly architectural plans for additions or survey drawings. Nearly everything needs the Arch 'D' extended format in landscape. There have been a small number of clients call the evening before leaving for Aruba or the golf course, with a desperate need to have a 'prelim' they can have for(insert lame reason here), right then. It's tough working home alone sometimes.

My printer will do posters too, but they often DO NOT come out to scale and it refuses to print to the edge of the paper. Mine autosizes the picture to the printable area, so watch out for that. And, if it asks you if you want registration marks, say YES.

My printer also refuses to accept dwg files for the poster format, so I have to plot to a pdf file first. I don't do that dog and pony show any more.

A few tricks I do for emergency requests are to do 4 AutoCAD layouts per "page", each containing approximately 1/4 of the drawing, plus about an inch of overlap, at the proper scale. I can use a block that contains some light gray 'registration lines' within a border and titleblock in model space that will also be printed in 1/4's around the PLAN. I just print these layouts on 8 1/2 x 11 letter size. My bill goes up by an hour and a half for this sorta junk.

I tell everybody up front that I print everything off site, and there is at least a 24 hour turnaround on the 'real' printed drawings. Anything else is extra.

I don't usually tape the thing together for them. I put the letter size puzzle in a manila folder. If they want it the hard way, that's what they get. Everybody loves my 4 diagonal corner to corner "Not for Bidding or Construction" hot pink hatched watermarks, too.

One large, BIG, client is always asking for BIG poster size drawings.

I send 'em a CD and tell 'em, "Print all you want, any size you need."

Client's home office is in Delaware (hint). They sent a request for 30+ sets of drawings, 30+ installation and use manuals, just all kinds of junque.

I replied, "Do I look like Kinko's?"

Next spec, to my liking, "Or, provide everything on a CD."

At the time I only used, long time ago, CD's for music.

Easy enough to provide a data CD. I like that!

Yeah, that's what I meant by not doing the dog and pony show any more. The last guy that asked for this was such a snipe that I just stopped it, period.

The client gets a CD pdf and/or email pdf file(s) ONLY. no AutoCAD usable drawings. Furthermore, If they pay, I will move the big hot pink watermark to its own layer and turn it off.:D

I do not do printing services, EVER. I tell everyone I have turned green and gone paperless. (Well, I will print stuff, but she has to be really really hot, and sound very very needy)

Hmmmmmmmm, now who in Delaware needs tanks? Phooie, ya got me.
