BWells Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 Has anyone had this problem and if so, how did you fix it?: Every time I re-gen my drawing it freezes up for several minutes and up to 20. Generally it happens with situations in which there are several arcs or imported images involved but in all my time with CAD I've never had it this bad. These drawings are not big ones nor are they all that complicated. I'm running a 32-bit Windows 7 system with 2010 AutoCAd and Carlson. there is about 781MB devoted to hardware. I'm beginning to think that this is a graphics card issue because of the fact that everything else is running just fine (even while CAD freezes up). I have entertained the idea of reloading but if the issue is just a hardware problem than i didn't want to got through the hassle. Best to ask the powers that be (aka the forum) than go and make the situation worse. Any point in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. Quote
ReMark Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 781MB of "what" devoted to hardware? What are your system specs? Quote
BWells Posted June 10, 2010 Author Posted June 10, 2010 781MB of "what" devoted to hardware? What are your system specs? 784 of my memory is devoted to hardware. and i'm looking into the rest of the specs Quote

BWells Posted June 11, 2010 Author Posted June 11, 2010 This morning the problem continued. Now it's take 20 min to open the file but some how my boss can open the file in seconds. (sadly my machine has better specs and is newer) I then repaired CAD and when that didn't work I unistalled CAD all together. After reinstalling the problem is not only continuing but it seems like the drawing is taking longer to open. Quote
RobDraw Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 How about system maintenance? Scan for viruses/malware, delete temp files, defrag etc. Quote
BWells Posted June 11, 2010 Author Posted June 11, 2010 Virses/malware is clean but the temp file i didn't think about. Drfrag is scheduled art 2AM every night. I'll check the temp file though. Quote
BWells Posted June 11, 2010 Author Posted June 11, 2010 oddly enough if i have my boss save the drawing down to 2007 it opens just fine. It's the weirdest thing. I think it has something to do with how the regen command is interacting with my computer. Quote

The regen command in and of itself would not have an affect on how your system performs. The fact that when it is saved back to an earlier version is evidence of this. Quote

Whats confusing is that i have no idea what i did that caused the problem in the first place. I would like to avoid situations like this as much as possible. It single handedly turned a one day job into a two day job. I'd rather not do that more that i can help. Quote
ScribbleJ Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 Could it have been the Carlson software? Maybe one of the objects/entities it creates had an undetectable error. I can't think of anything else that would cause it unless the file had a error created by AutoCad. Maybe try doing an audit and purge on the drawing file. What exactly are you using Carlson to do? Quote
BWells Posted June 11, 2010 Author Posted June 11, 2010 I haven't used any Carlson commands. I do have several dynamic blocks that are pretty detailed in the drawing though. I will try the audit and purge as soon as the job is complete. I'm just afraid to close the drawing at the moment. the prints should be done today. thats for the input scribblej. I'll make sure to post my results Monady. Quote
RobDraw Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 .tmp files can be stored in many places, best to do a search for them. I just recently came across a machine that had over 15,000 tmp files. Quote
