Anyone know what controls the default size that mtext is brought in at?? I'm usually in 1/4"=1', and I've found that for whatever reason text @ 4 13/16" actually comes out a tenth. But when I first start a drawing the mtext wants to come in at 3/16" when I'm in quarter scale. is there a way to change this so I don't have to match properties or copy mtext around to get the right size??

thanks,

Erik

You should not be drawing to scale. You should be drawing full size then either dimensioning in your layout or using annotative scaling.

thanks for your reply.

I do draw at full scale... probably worded my question poorly.

I'll set up a drawing by setting the scale (usually 1/4"), draw at full scale, but when I enter "mtext" the size is usually way way too small. The default seems to be a text height of 4/16" for some reason. Through experimenting I've found that 4 13/16" comes out as 1/10" in my presentation dwg, so that's what I'd like for the default.

I've noticed in some other drawings I haven't set up that the mtext comes in at the correct size. In my drawings, though, I need to use match properties each time, or copy mtext around which can get annonying.

thanks,

Erik

Take a look at Text Style - thats where the default size is set. On 2010-Ribbon it is on the Annotate-panel.

If you were using annotative scaling for your text and dimensions you'd probably have fewer problems.

What do you mean by setting up a drawing by setting the scale? Where, exactly?

Are you dimensioning in modelspace or paperspace?
