cutting a part with another to make an exact fit?

I've got two parts that I want to fit perfectly, currently they are very different and no where near that stage. The top piece overlaps portions of the bottom one, however I just don't know which tool to use and how to use it.

Any help would be appreciated,

Well, you could use the profile, (sketch) of one to cut the other. Copy the sketch of the part you want to slice with into a new sketch on the part you want to cut and use the Extrude/Cut option...

A simple example:

The blue sketch is a copy of the part I want to fit my existing

Now I am sure these parts will fit perfectly in my assembly.

Since you are using 2011 you could use multi-body solids and Combine (cut).

Derived Components is another technique.

Copy Object and Split or Sculpt in assembly is another technique.

So may ways....

Can you attach file(s) here?

Nevermind guys, I've had to switch to another model since the first one had a bunch of problems that just can't seem to be resolved.
