Hello everyone. I need a little help with an xref disappearing.

Earlier I attached a floor plan drawing from an architect so that I can start laying out my foundation plan for the project. Something came up with another project so I closed what I was working on and took care of the other project. When I opened the foundation project again, the xref had disappeared. When I checked my dialog box it showed that the xref was not found.

I have never ran across this problem before. So, I got another person in the office to do the same process from their work station and everything work for them.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are both files in the same location - I mean the reference and target drawings? Please remember that if you move one of them will lose the connection. Also if the reference was on a network drive please check his availability.

You can fix the path in XREF - select the trouble-maker entry and under Found At field click (...).

The two files are in seperate locations, neither file has been moved, no problem with the availability of the network drive.

I used the (...) button on the Found At field and it keeps the path, but I shouldn't have to do this. I can't figure out why this just starting happening. Nothing has changed on my system.

Thanks,

So, you checked the paths and are OK and the reference drawing is still missing? Try to run an AUDIT on both files.

Yes, both paths are ok.

Ran and AUDIT on both files and no errors were found.

This has really got me stumped.

Sorry, I don't know what else can be...

In your xref manager do you get an 'Unreferenced' message in the status column? Maybe the file got deleted from within the drawing by accident? This will cause the 'Unreferenced' message.

Another thing to check is when you attached the xref is which 'Path type' is chosen? The choices are Full path, Relative path & No path. Try Full path and see if that helps.

Status shows "Not Found". The file is still in its' original location.

I hadn't checked the path type yet. I'll go and see what that is set to.

Thanks,

You haven't mentioned whether you've done this or not, but have you tried simply detaching and then re-attaching the xref?

I'm assuming this problem is only happening in this one drawing, correct?

Since you've only just started on this project, can you just trash this drawing and start over with a fresh new file?

Path type was set to "No Path".

I have never noticed that option.

Thanks for the help.

Yeah the 'Not found' message is what you get when it loses the path. I'm glad it worked out for you.
