I have just carried out a tree survey using a laser device and some GIS software. I have managed to upload the tree positions in DXF format but when I view the file in autocad the symbols representing the tree positions are very small squares that are difficult to discern. Is there any way that I change the symbols to something more discernable on the page?

Sorry if this is a little unclear. I'm not really up on the technical jargon.

Thanks in advance for any help.

explore the variables PDMODE and PDSIZE - PDMODE changes the appearance of the points and PDSIZE the size. See your Help regarding the availible settings on PDMODE, I recommend 35 :)

Thanks for your quick response. I have messed about with PDMODE and PDSIZE to no effect.

The current sybols look like a square with the numeral zero anchored to the bottom left hand corner of each square.

Changing the PDMODEE and PDSIZE has no effect on the appearance of the symbol. I have selected the square and the zero separately and tried adjusting both to no avail. I presume this is because the square is already a symbol and not a point?

Any clues

Ah, so its a block? Try selecting all the blocks (QSELECT or FILTER or just Ctrl+A if its all there is) and changing scale in the Properties?

Thanks. This works but I would prefer it if the blocks were points (your suggested PDMODE 35 would be ideal). Is there anyway I can change them?

Not change I would say, but you should be able to place a point at each Insertionpoint of the blocks.....this sound like a Lisp is needed though to make it efficient, but I don't know anything about Lisps :(

Fair enough Tiger. Thanks for your help. I will see if there is any adjustment that can be made in the GIS software to change the output.

don't need a lisp for this.... surely?

you can just edit the block (BEDIT) to look how you want it and all the others will update, or make a new block and run BLOCKREPLACE to substitute them for another block of your choice.

if you need all the blocks as they are, make a block containing your old block and a point (use the same base point) do BLOCKREPLACE, then explode them all. Voila - you have all original blocks in place, and a point over each one.

Hmmm thanks for the tip. Seems to be quite a complicated command. I am not really sure how to go about it.

What software created the dxf file? We use Trimble Pathfinder and there are some options for how the export is formatted...
