MarkFlayler Posted July 8, 2010 Posted July 8, 2010 All of these are copyrighted materials and the authors all worked hard to create them. No, they are not free and yes you can still buy them from the Autodesk store. If you want free training material and have a student email address you can sign up in the Education and Design community and they have free resources in there. Autodesk has getting started guides in Inventor for Tube and Pipe, Cable and Harness, and Simulation. Tooling has a workflow advisor and there are many other tutorials in the software to get you started. Other than that, buy one of the books (they come with on screen tools if you prefer rather than the book). There are also books by Wiley Sybex and Ascent available too. Quote
JD Mather Posted July 8, 2010 Posted July 8, 2010 Excerpts from many of those books are used as live demonstrations in the examples in the on-line classes from past AUs http://au.autodesk.com ...and you can dowload them from here http://store.autodesk.com/DRHM/servlet/ControllerServlet?Action=DisplayProductByTypePage&SiteID=adsk&Locale=en_US&Env=BASE&parentCategoryID=&categoryID=10394400 and here http://store.autodesk.com/DRHM/servlet/ControllerServlet?Action=DisplayProductByTypePage&SiteID=adsk&Locale=en_US&Env=BASE&parentCategoryID=&categoryID=10394500 Quote
Chriske Posted July 8, 2010 Posted July 8, 2010 All, I'm one of these guys who learned Inventor (7) all by myself. I picked it all up through the 'Visual Sylabus' inbedded in Inventor itself (nice littel animations btw). The rest I found by myself. The program itself cost lots of money. As far as I know there are no books that goes with the program (I'm one of these lucky guys using Inventor through my job (school)). In my opinion there should be tons of educational material added with the installation DVD's. IMO it's a sin Autodesk not doing that...! Chris Quote

IMO it's a sin Autodesk not doing that...! Keep in mind Autodesk products are highly sophisticated tools that can accomplish a great deal of things. The many different industries with which these products are used in makes it very difficult to write books or tutorials that can cover everything that everyone will want to know. A manual that you would find invaluable to your work may do very little to educate me on how to use Inventor for what I do, and vice versa. So, it's a little unfair to expect Autodesk to include tons of education material in DVDs or printed format. They offer the basics in terms of help files and some tutorials which should help you on your way to understand how to use Inventor. You are expected to learn the rest via courses or industry specific books/manuals. And what you can't learn from manuals or courses, you can ask communities like this website for additional help/suggestions. If you are working with Inventor, tell your boss that you can learn additional things that can speed up your productivity and have him/her buy a book for business use. Quote
