bhamze Posted July 9, 2010 Posted July 9, 2010 The part4 you posted, in it the creases are two sharp and i tried to apply fillet on them (on edges) but sw wont let me. Any insights? You may need to add a variable radius. The tips would be set to a very small radius, maybe even 0. I'll give it try. Quote
bilalbajwa Posted July 9, 2010 Author Posted July 9, 2010 Thanks One more question, This part is 100% of its size i need identical parts which decrease by 25% in size like 75% and a 50%. DO you know a way in solid works that i can just duplicate and drag them to change size like we do in Photoshop, coreldraw etc. Quote

bilalbajwa Posted July 9, 2010 Author Posted July 9, 2010 I see what u saying about variable fillets. I came across a new problem now. The problem is garbage that is thrown at the intersections when a fillet on one edge meets the fillet on the other with same radius. How can we do a smooth transition from one fillet to another. Irregular geometry is appearing at corners. http://www.easy-share.com/1911277123/Partfillet.SLDPRT file will be available soon. Quote

Sometimes the order in which you make the selection helps. The file you uploaded is a prime example of this. I edited the part and fillet features using the radius you selected. The fillets are much cleaner but if you zoom in on the top edge of the profile you will notice that the curvature is not accurate. The surface is smooth but I felt it could be better. Also attached is a file with a more accurate surface finish. Usually its better practice to add fillets as a feature than in a sketch. If fillets are done as a feature, its much easier to edit and change values without error. However, with this part I couldn't make a suitable blend with the fillet feature. I had to add the fillets to the sketches, when lofted the surface was accurate. There are other techniques for blending surfaces using start/end constraints but with this part I felt this was a better approach. You will notice as time goes on that there are many ways to create geometry. You will see multiple solutions from different people and there opinions. There really isn't a wrong or right way. Its always a good idea to get peoples opinions but in the end you should model in a way that makes sense to you. I hope more users will express there solutions regarding this part, you always pick up new tricks. Did you figure out the phone cord? Blend.zip Partfillet.zip Quote
bilalbajwa Posted July 9, 2010 Author Posted July 9, 2010 Thanks a lot guys for your help. I learned so much within two days. "bhamze" the attachments you posted really helped me a lot. For now i am satisfied for what i have. I will post a again within this thread if something comes up. Thanks Again.:D:D:D:D:D Quote
shift1313 Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 Thanks bhamze and shift1313. shift1313 can u please attach the part file so that i can rollback feature and learn what you are doing. Hey bilal, sorry ive been out of town all weekend so I wasnt able to post a file. You guys are right about the variable fillet. They go to zero on the "sharp" end in my model. Here is the file. I wasnt sure what you had for a side profile so I just created a plane based on the two sharp end points. Let me know if you have any questions. TriangleSurface.zip Quote
