Question for Civil 3D 2010

I'm a student in the process of learning AutoCAD Civil 3D 2010, and I came across a peculiar problem. When trying to change data in the Properties palette...well, I'm unable to altogether. The guy sitting next to me in class is able to just fine, but when I try to change the data in a field, it de-selects the field without changing anything. Do you know of anything that might be causing this? I'm guessing I accidentally hit a hotkey to affect this, but I have no idea what it might have been. Any input would be most welcome!

Sounds more like a program error. The properties palette is known to go haywire...

But first, are you trying to edit a plain AutoCAD entity, or a C3D object, or does it do this on any object?

Try doing AUDIT, it sometimes helps in case the objects you are editing are annotative, like most of civil 3d objects are.

That's a little vague... Really, NONE of the Civil 3D objects are Annotative. They have auto-scaling capabilities, but they DO NOT use the Annotation Scale. Instead, they use the viewport scale (in paperspace) or the drawing scale (in modelspace) to size themselves.

This has confused many people. The article Civil 3D Annotation Scaling Revisited at Civil3D.com goes into the topic in more detail.

As for the OP's issue, I haven't seen that issue. I can instantly crash C3D 2010 by trying to change the properties of Express Tools' Arc Aligned Text via the Properties tab, but I haven't seen the OP's issue. My first thought was maybe it was something like PICKFIRST, but I've been trying to duplicate the issue with no luck so far.
