gargoyle27 Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 i realize that a lot of my troubles with unresolved links and things of that sort is because i bascially don't use the "projects" function. it is simply because i only work on a few machines and many of their parts are interchangeable, so it would constantly be saying this part isn't in the project etc etc. so is there a way to turn that off? so it doesn't care what project it's from it'll just reference the part with no problems? Quote
stevsmith Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 Why don't you publish your "constantly" used items into the content center? I'm assuming this is an inventor question and not a mech 09 question. Quote
gargoyle27 Posted July 12, 2010 Author Posted July 12, 2010 how do i do that? ive tried to use the content center before but it doesn't let me for some reason Quote
MarkFlayler Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 Read this first http://augiru.augi.com/content/library/au07/data/paper/MA401-1.pdf Then let me know if you still want them in CC. Really if you manage your Projects correctly you wouldn't have a problem, so maybe this would help. Quote
Enfiel3D Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 You may setup search folders for each project, effectively instructing Inventor to look in other project folders for missing parts. I use this widely, and it works great. Quote

Enfiel3D Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 that might be exactly what i'm looking for, how do i do that? Have a look at the line marked on the screenshot, it is there. You may add extra paths where Inventor will look if needed parts are not in the active project. I advice you to thoroughly researd the concept of projects in Inventor. Do your reading and believe me - it will pay off. Quote

Enfiel3D Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 Don't have that option? Strange. Can you attach a screenshot? Quote
gargoyle27 Posted July 20, 2010 Author Posted July 20, 2010 here's a picture of my projects window Quote
Enfiel3D Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 Oops, I just realised that you are using Inventor 2009. In this case, I believe, the path should be added to the Libraries section. Try it and get back to us with the results. Quote
gargoyle27 Posted July 20, 2010 Author Posted July 20, 2010 hmmm, seems to be working fine, i'll let you know if i have any more problems Quote
gargoyle27 Posted July 20, 2010 Author Posted July 20, 2010 ok so i added a folder, and now anything in that folder i can't make changes to, what did i do wrong? Quote
Enfiel3D Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 Unfortunately, I can't repeat that because I don't have 2009. But above the 'DONE' button in that menu there should be 'Configure content center libraries' button. If you press it, you wil be able to set up read/write preferences for the library entries. See if that helps. If anybody out there uses 2009, please attend. Quote
Enfiel3D Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 Bit of a suprise for me really! I started using multi-paths sources for my projects starting with Invetor 2010 and I thought that they included that option much earlier. The workaround solution that I can think of is to create an encompassing project which would cover all of the directories you use. You may utilise the "Frequently used subfolders". They work the following way - you enter paths for the subfolders there and in the open/save dialogs Inventor displays them in the right of the window for the quick access. So if you have path: D:/Broken/Rusty/Discarded/Disassembled/Deformed/Unwanted you may assign Unwanted and the frequently used subfolder and have a quick access to it right away without going through D:/Broken/Rusty/Discarded/Disassembled/Deformed/ each time. Quote
gargoyle27 Posted July 21, 2010 Author Posted July 21, 2010 what folders am i allowed to add in that frequently used subfolders thing? it doesn't let me add any saying "invalid frequently used subfolders path. make sure the selected path is a subfolder of one of the project search paths" what does that mean? Quote
Enfiel3D Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 That means that those subfolders are only allowed to be within the current project. That's the inherent limitation of this option. Quote

mechman Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 or do what most do... set project workspace as the root of your design folder. Problem solved. Quote
