bmaus Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 Hi, I have just upgraded my work laptop to windows 7 and we are accessing our files through a homegroup. The problem we are having is when we go to open a file through AutoCAD, when we get the the filepath where we go into the homegroup, a new window pops up and we have to continue the file path through it, then clost that window and hit the cancel button on the AutoCAD "open" window. This has become a real pain and we are finding other problems associated with this including not being able to "save as" because there is no "save" button in the new window that pops up (it is just a standart windows explorer window). Any help is appreciated, Thanks. Quote
tzframpton Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 Are you running a server at all?? You should be mapping a drive with matching drive letters on each workstation that is connecting to the server that houses all the CAD files. And by "server" I don't mean an actual server per se, just saying some type of computer that is acting as a document repository of all the files for the job. Quote
bmaus Posted July 15, 2010 Author Posted July 15, 2010 We have a server machine with all the files on it, and are not too familliar with creating networks and password protecting a network, so what we have done is just created a homegroup in windows 7 that acts as our network and are sharing files over it. tzframpton Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 Open My Computer and in the window there is a button below the address bar and above the files called "Map Network Drive". Just click it and follow the wizard. Also, try using Google and search "map network drive windows 7" and it'll give you a few good tutorials on how to set this up. It's not really that difficult and as long as each computer is connected to the server then it can have a drive mapped to a designated directory. Quote
