traumathecat Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 Is it possible to specify which rows/columns are displayed in a table that is created from a linked Excel file? I'm working with a drawing in which I want to display a table that comes from an Excel file. I have been able to link the spreadsheet to my drawing with a data link. The problem is that I have a lot of extra information in my spreadsheet that I don't need to display on the table within my drawing, so I'd like to be able to hide certain columns or rows. I'm working with Civil 3D 2011. Thanks in advance for your help. Quote
ReMark Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 Could this be accomplished by specifying the range of cells to be displayed? I believe there is an option for this in the Datalink command. Quote

I believe there is an option for this in the Datalink command. Thanks for your response. That would normally work, but not with the way this spreadsheet is set up. The range only seems to work with a range of cells that are all in one block (A1:Z99, for example). In this case, I need to display columns A, D, F, and K, but not the columns in between and it won't recognize that setup. I've even tried creating a named range in Excel with only the columns I want display and when I bring it into AutoCAD that way, it only recognizes the first block of cells (Column A) and ignores the rest. ReMark Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 So in Excel you hide some columns but when you bring the spreadsheet into AutoCAD via a Datalink the hidden columns show up? Quote

ReMark Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 I have no solution off the top of my head. I'd have to play around with a datalink and see what happens. Sorry. Quote

Thanks for trying. I've figured out a way to work around it for the time being. I set up a separate tab in my excel file that only has the columns I want and it is created entirely from formulas that refer back to my original sheet (='Sheet1'!A1, ='Sheet1'!D1, =Sheet1'!F1, etc.). I set the datalink to pick up that sheet so my AutoCAD table is displaying what I want to see. It's not exactly ideal, but it works. Quote
