lakr89 Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 Just a quick question, how do these mates work? I currently have two gears, identical which should work properly together, however when I do a mechanical gear mate, the mate is made but then the two gears stay in the same place and do not do anything else. How do I mate them so that i can manually move one gear one the mouse and have the gear rotate the second gear?? Quote
Cad64 Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 I've moved your question to the Solidworks section. Quote
shift1313 Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 The gear mate is a simple ratio. Since both your gears are the same it will be a 1:1 ratio. You also need to have your gears constrained so they are free to rotate so you need some sort of axle for them to rotate on. I would guess that one of your gears is fixed. If you look in the feature tree there will be an (f) next to one if it is fixed. The first part in an assembly is automatically fixed. Right click on its name in the feature tree and select Float. Then make sure you add other components so the gears are free to rotate how you want them. Once you can rotate both gears freely, apply your gear relation. Quote
