jay2k6ie Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 Hi, I am a graphic designer and I use adobe illustrator cs4. I have been asked to design some artwork for a plastic tray which will be laser cut. Essentially the company wants me to design these in illustrator and then give them the CAD files to put straight into there computer at the factory to laser cut these trays. The designs I do are on a white background 165mm x 230mm. All the designs are in black and these black lines that make up the design illustrate where the machine will cut the tray. I am aware that illustrator can export the files as dwg and dxf but when you take these files into Autodesk they are read with all the layers and I dont want this. Essentially what I need is something that will convert the jpgs or pdfs that I save from illustrator and convert only the black lines which represent the cuts the laser will make into something that is readable in CAD. I need these to be as high quality as possible so that if I draw a circle in illustrator the converter needs to make this almost identical but readable in a dwg or dxf format. I do realise my explanation is a bit outlandish and probably sounds crazy but im not very in the know with 'cad' so im unsure of whats possible and whats not. If anyone can make sense of what im trying to ask for then the help is greatly appreciated. cheers ( the long and the short of it is how do i convert black lines in a jpg or pdf into the blue lines in CAD?) Cheers Quote
Ryder76 Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 http://www.aidecad.com/pdf-to-dxf-converter.html I downloaded the free trial and use it to convert pdf's in to dxf. Then I open them in Autocad and save as dwg. Should do what you need. The company you are sending the file to should be able to tweek it if necessary. Quote
Guest Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 You can also export AI files from Illustrator to a DWG or DXF file. The main thing would be to make sure that you have none of your objects filled with a color. (lines only) The other thing is that once its exported from Illustrator, and opened in CAD the drawing will need to be scaled to the proper size. A normal drafter should have no problems with this, so make sure there are dimension references in the file, so that it can be scaled properly. The manufacturers I send lazer files to will also work with AI, or EPS files, but I would imagine that would depend on what software they have. Please note this will NOT work with raster images, only vector. Quote
autocadtk Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 If you PDF file is crated by a jpg ,you cant convet to DWG Quote
