ajcarr4 Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 I am trying to change multiple objects under a number of layers and put them into one layer. I have exploded all the blocks out. I select everything i want to change and change it in the layer bit. While everything is selected it says the layer has changed but when i select a single line it is still the old layer with the old properties (colours etc.). Any idea where i am going wrong? I would imagine one of my basic settings is not right. Quote
ReMark Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 I'm curious as to why you would explode all blocks. Quote
Tiger Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 .... I select everything i want to change and change it in the layer bit...... What Layer bit? A picture is worth a thousand words here. Quote
ajcarr4 Posted August 4, 2010 Author Posted August 4, 2010 I'm curious as to why you would explode all blocks. It is an architectural drawing with a lot of stuff i dont need, if i dont explode the blocks i cant get rid of all the junk layers without editing the blocks and there is hundreds of them. Unless i an and i didn't know it? Quote
ajcarr4 Posted August 4, 2010 Author Posted August 4, 2010 What Layer bit? A picture is worth a thousand words here. That layer bit. So i have a load of lines, plines etc. all different layers selected. I then click the layer i want but they do not change to that layer. None of the layers are locked. Quote
Tiger Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 Ah That layer-bit. Well, as far as I know, that should work. Have you tried useing the CHANGE command? Is the layer an X-ref layer? Quote
ajcarr4 Posted August 4, 2010 Author Posted August 4, 2010 Yes, it seems to let me change it if i select a small group of lines, but as soon as i go for a lot it will not change. No its not an X-ref layer. It has never happened before but i know autocad randomly likes to change settings on its own. Quote
Tiger Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 if you say it works for smaller portions, I wonder if it is only lines and plines if you go for all? Quote
ajcarr4 Posted August 4, 2010 Author Posted August 4, 2010 the strange thing is, if i select the lot and change them to the layer i want it does say they have been changed. And if i select it all again it says it has been changed, but when i select the individual lines none have been changed. Everything is selected and i click on the layer i want it all to be under. It claims everything has changed. When deselect everything and click on a single line the layer and the properties have not changed. Quote
ReMark Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 Try this test. Select about a half-dozen of these stubborn entities and use the CHANGE command instead. What happens? Quote
ajcarr4 Posted August 4, 2010 Author Posted August 4, 2010 If i select a half-dozen it works, but selecting more then that it does the same a before. Quote
ajcarr4 Posted August 4, 2010 Author Posted August 4, 2010 also note if all the lines (as many as i want) are already under one layer it works and i can change the layer, but if i isolate a single layer and select all (including the locked layers that shouldnt change) nothing changes, not even the isolated layer. Quote
Tiger Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 I haven't tried this, but I would guess if objects that you want to move are on locked or frozen layers, then the whole operation is scrapped. It's an all or nothing move. Again, a guess - I don't have a file handy to test this. Quote
ajcarr4 Posted August 4, 2010 Author Posted August 4, 2010 Sorry i meant that i selected everything on the drawing with one layer isolated, the last time i tried the isolated layer could be put under another layer and everything else remained the same. This time the isolated layer never changed. Quote
