bobsy852 Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 My AutoCAD kindly gave me a message about a handy tool in the form of "Shift+Spacebar" to swop between overlying objects! A handy tool i thought! I'll be needing that! So I go to test it, and it works fine to show me that there are two thing overlapping eachother and what they are etc, but I want to be able to select one of them! Particully the item that is underneath? Am I missing something with how this tool works? Thanks folks! Quote
edwinprakoso Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 Can you activate cycle between object by holding ctrl and left click? It could be the LEGACYCTRLPICK system variable has changed. Try to change it to 0. Quote
bobsy852 Posted August 13, 2010 Author Posted August 13, 2010 Ctrl+left click doesn't seem to do anything when i click on 2 overlapping items? How do I alter that variable? as it says it is an unknown command! Apolgies, I failed to mention I am using AutoCAD 2009 LT! Quote
qball Posted August 16, 2010 Posted August 16, 2010 hover the cursor over the objects (then the top one goes dotted), hit shift + space (bottom goes dotted), hold the cursor steady and left click select. If you move the cursor around it defaults back to the top selection. Make sure your Options - Selection - When no command is active is checked. Works for me in acad2010, not familiar with LT. Quote
bobsy852 Posted August 17, 2010 Author Posted August 17, 2010 My options are set up like that. I have got it to work now, however in a different way to you im afriad qball. When I hover over the items they do not go dotted, they become more obvious, kind of like being highlighted, or he linetype getting slightly larger. To select the item underneath, I simply hover over the top item (pressing nothing on the mouse), Hit Shift+Space, this bring the bottom item forward, then keeping hold of space, let go of the Shift key (somehow this takes a sec for my head to get around, not a key movment I feel comfortable doing for some reason) but then I press the left mouse button whilst keeping hold of the space bar. This then selects the item underneath. It's just a way I leart through tiral an error. May work differenlty in the 2010 from the 2009 perhaps? Thanks anyway qball! Quote
ReMark Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 Your system seems to have more than its fair share of problems based upon the number of threads you've started. Who set it up in the first place? Quote

Go to Tools > Options > Selection > Visual Effect Settings - There you can check off to have the objects go fat, dotted or both. Quote
bobsy852 Posted August 18, 2010 Author Posted August 18, 2010 Your system seems to have more than its fair share of problems based upon the number of threads you've started. Who set it up in the first place? Well it's a combination of both that I think and things like this which are simply a case of me not knowing AutoCAD as well as I would like! Issues in some of my other topics such as the moving lines situation (www.cadtutor.net/forum/showthread.php?51472-Lines-moving-randomly) are on my home system which I have set up but I'm struggling to find answers for. The autosave we discussed a lot about yesterday was on my office system which is set up by the bosses IT contact, who I need to talk to really to get updates etc installed! Half of my topics are simply me however just trying to find out how to do stuff! Apologies if I seem to be clogging up the forum, I do try and search before I post! However I find this to be one of the best places to get AcutoCAD help! Go to Tools > Options > Selection > Visual Effect Settings - There you can check off to have the objects go fat, dotted or both. Thanks for that! Not something I was aware of! Quote
ReMark Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 No apology necessary. I was just commenting on the number of "issues" you seemed to be experiencing that's all. No offence meant. Quote

No offence meant. lol, fair enough mate! none taken! - just didn't want to be coming across as being too irritating or anything! I understand how it must look like I have a lot of issues, I suppose the case of using two different systems doesnt help, both with different variants od CAD on! Also me trying to work above my skills which I learnt at University! (which were vary basic 2D skills) - every time I try do something that bit extra and get stuck i usually come here first - and more often than not get the help I need Most of the answers are already on here though which makes things a whole lot easier and means I dont have to ask about almost everything!
