SwChilly Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 Hi there, Haven't heard from me in a while, miss me? Anyway my problem is, when I leave my computer and come back the screensaver is usually on. When the screensaver turns off (by moving the mouse and typing, etc..) AutoCAD crashes (I get the error report). I'm curious to see if there is any reasons why? I'm getting into the habit of hitting save when I leave my computer for a few minutes. Quote
ReMark Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 What are the specs on your computer? Screensaver issues were a big problem in the past due to memory conflicts/constraints. Quote
Tiger Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 Are you doing 3D-modelling? I have had this (and other issues) when I leave the computer with a 3D-model up. And, oddly, when I leave a video on pause in Firefox and the screensaver kicks in, Firefox crashes. (not that I think they are related) Quote
SwChilly Posted August 13, 2010 Author Posted August 13, 2010 Thanks for the replies! Umm well here's the information from the Control panel: 2.13 GHz, 2.99 GB of RAM And I haven't done 3D modelling yet. These are just regular 2D drawings. Quote
ReMark Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 What happens if you disable the screensaver? Quote
Dana W Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 If you're running one of those aftermarket screen savers with animation, you may as well be running a DVD. I use (NONE) for a screen saver, and let Windows turn off the display after 20 minutes of non-use. That's one advantage of an LCD monitor, it just blinks right back on. I have had screen saver conflicts in the past with Acad 07, but not with newer stuff. There's no reason for a screen saver unless you're using a 1982 monochrome CRT monitor. The screens don't burn in anymore. Quote

The LCD monitors are great but, I miss the old ViewSonic 22" graphic monitor I had. I gave it away to gain desktop real estate. Don't know why I miss the CRT, just sentimental I guess. Quote
ReMark Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 Tank: I think you miss it because of the 4:3 aspect ratio. Just seems more natural. Perhaps we are showing our age! LOL Quote
Tankman Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 Yes ReMark gettin' used to the wide sceen took awhile. And you bet, wouldn't go back now. Quote
kari_sinkko Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 I had issues with some screensavers knocking over Autocad and giving me some really trippy video errors. And as for widescreens, i fill them up to give my 4:3 aspect back Quote
Tyke Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 We have the same problem as SwChilly, but only on one computer. Its an HP Z400 4GB RAM and two 24" Samsung monitors and it only happens with AutoCAD Civil 3d 2011. We have a Windows 3D object as the screen saver. Quote
ReMark Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 I'm surprised anyone even uses screensavers any more. Kids like them though. I think they find them mildly entertaining for about the first 30 seconds. Quote
Jack_O'neill Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 I don't know if they are still this way, haven't looked at a screen saver file in years, but the problem used to stem from the fact that screen saver files had a file extension of ".scr", and Autocad used that same extension for script files. Somehow during the waking up process from running the screensaver, Autocad would think it was supposed to run a script and crash because it of course couldn't run the screensaver file. This was back in the old R12, 13 and 14 days. 13 was really bad about it (13 was bad, period). Quote
f700es Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 No way, I am old school too and I welcomed wide screen monitors with open arms. I guess I worked on more rectangle designs than square ones Not sure if the OP answered this but I want to see what video solution they are using. I saw the cpu and ram specs but that is not the whole picture. Quote
Patrick Hughes Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 I'm getting into the habit of hitting save when I leave my computer for a few minutes. Not a bad habit to get into regardless. Save early. Save often. Quote
Jack_O'neill Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 Not a bad habit to get into regardless. Save early. Save often. use autosave! then you don't have to remember! I have often thought about asking Autodesk to rename it to "save your....backside" but i don't think they would do it. Shortcut key could then be sya.... just a though. Quote
