After 10 long years of faithful service I think my 21" Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 2040u CRT monitor is on the brink of death. I'm looking for recommendations for its replacement. This is at my workplace so I'll try to be careful with the dollars but I'm thinking a 24" widescreen. Thoughts and comments solicted and appreciated. Thanks.

Hi ReMark, I use a 24" monitor (1900x1200 pix) now for 3 years, It's a real recommendation, the only thing I miss is the true view, I have that at home only that one is 17" but that gives a real extra dimension to it. Materials look very realistic.

Oppie: What monitor do you have? I've already decided I don't want anything less than a 24" LCD widescreen.

f700es: Not sure I really need or want a dual monitor setup.

Here are a few of the monitors I am looking at.

-Samsung SyncMaster P2570 24.6" LCD 2ms response time $280 U.S.

-Viewsonic VX2739VM 27" LCD 1ms response time $396 U.S.

-Dell UltraSharp U2410 24" LCD 6ms response time $599 U.S.

Not Viewsonic - myself got lots of problem with this company specially when coming to deal with warranty. For long time one of my daughter abusing 22 inch HP monitor and still working - recommended.

I am still using two 21" crt monitors and got promise from boss(read wife) to get two new one soon this two die. Past year 2012...

Word from company IT.-: Do not buy bigger than 24". He got 27" and next day traded back for 24" - he said it was terrible...

Nothing better than having CAD on one screen and e-mail, word, excel, whatever open on the other. I even put my CAD palettes on the other screen. I do this with CAD, Photoshop, Illustrator, anything that I can.

Dell 21.5" ST2210s are $149.99 each.

Not top of the line but very nice with DVI, VGA and HDMI inputs.

I had dual monitors long before they were the rage. Text was on a 13" amber monitor and graphics on a 21" color monitor. The graphics card, by nth Engine, cost $3000.

@ReMark, i use a Dell E248WFP 24-inch Widescreen Flat Panel LCD Monitor (1900x1200) as said before this one is not a true life screen, that one was at the time 225 Euro's more.

my next one would be: The Dell UltraSharp U2410 24-inch Widescreen Flat Panel Monitor

Hi ReMark,

At work I use a Samsung 24" LCD widesreen for my AutoCAD, and a 19" LCD Samsung for Cad Tutor :P (and e-mail, excel, web, etc...). Samsung seems to make pretty reliable stuff, it's the only type of monitor we use at the office. This being said we only do 2D drafting, structural mostly, so no fancy renderings or animations. The widescreen is definitely nice to have too, gives you lots of drawing space and room on the sides for menus and toolbars. I don't think I would ever need more than 24", as I like to tell myself, bigger isn't always better! Good luck in your search.

best regards

I bought a 28" Hanns G from Newegg last year, it's simply gorgeous. I believe the price has dropped quite a bit since then, and can be bought for $300 ish.

ReMark:

Try Dell's outlet, refurbed, new warranty, easy on the wallet.

The LCD monitors go fast from the outlet, see something you want and at the right $$$, get it.

I've had many, 23", 26", 30", 36". Won't go back, gave my 22" Graphic Viewsonic to a daughter.

That CRT was excellent but, I like the desktop real estate without the BIG box.
