field formatting - is it possible to keep or paste?

i have a load of polylines to which i need to add area tags - i'm using fields.

i set the first up so text height, precision, suffix etc are as i want, but then when i do the next polyline, the formatting resets.

is there a variable or some way to retain the formatting so each one is formatted the same? i notice there is a 'field expression' box, but i can't paste the previous formatting code to it. hmmm.

I seem to have the same problem. It's annoying.

You can however create an object, add field, then copy both, modify the 2nd object and the 2nd field should update to the 2nd object. But I imagine you don't want to redraw the plines.

cary - that's what annoys me - you can't!

qball - correct. don't want to have to edit loads of polylines when they already exist.

i'll put it on the wishlist - thanks.

Diesel is a simple programming language that can be used in Fields. Look it up in help to get an idea.

Feel free to ask if you need help with something specific.

Seems like a candidate for a wishlist. Go here and submit it:

so i put it on the wishlist you recommended, and got this baffling response:

Thanks for taking time to send Feedback to the AutoCAD Architecture Team. The Height and Precision settings will stay but not the Suffix. The workaround will be copied the Suffix text and paste it to the next Object's Property field's Suffix box.

Regarding the text in the "Field expression" box, it is read-only. You can copy them down and paste it to MText Editor directly to retain the formatting codes. But you are creating the Object Property fields, the _ObjID from another polyline will be required to display the correct Area value. It seems to me copy and paste the Suffix text will be a better way in your case.

Thanks,
